A study on user willingness to participate in an adverse drug event information sharing system
Our findings indicate that the approach to sharing personal ADE information should be distinct from that of sharing comprehensive health information. Notably, users are likely to willingly disclose their personal information even if they are not anonymized, owing to the significant perceived benefits of sharing. The findings of this study can enhance awareness about sharing personal ADE information and contribute to the successful establishment o…
Low QRS Voltage in Limb Leads Indicates Accompanying Precordial Voltage Attenuation Resulting in Underestimation of Left Ventricular Hypertrophy
Low QRS voltage (LQRSV) in electrocardiography (ECG) often occurs in limb leads without apparent cause. However, its clinical significance is obscure in healthy populations. We reviewed patients aged over 60 who were scheduled for non-cardiac surgery in two hospitals. Patients underwent pre-operative ECG, echocardiography, pulmonary function test, and chest X-ray. Patients with LQRSV isolated to limb leads and patients without LQRSV were selected…
Asean's economic security and regional economic cooperation
Since the end of the Cold War, ASEAN has continuously increased its level of integration into the global economy to enhance regional economic prosperity and stability. Given the conceptual fluidity of economic security in international relations, however, ASEAN's firm commitment to promoting positive synergies between economic and security interests warrants further attention. In this vein, this article examines the evolving nature of ASEAN's eco…
Mobile phone users as pseudo-brokers in clientelism
Despite a vast literature on clientelism, the impact of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) on clientelistic exchanges remains understudied. In order to fill that gap, we examine whether politicians disproportionately direct private transfers to mobile phone users, who can easily share persuasive messages with their communication partners and thus provide cascading benefits. Analyzing data from the fifth wave of the Afrobarometer surv…

IMF = I’M Fired! IMF Program Participation, Political Systems, and Workers’ Rights
How do International Monetary Fund programs and conditions affect labor rights? Recognizing the diversity of International Monetary Fund conditionality, we argue that the more stringent International Monetary Fund labor market conditionality is, the worse labor rights become. However, this negative effect can be mitigated if there exist domestic political institutions that have incentives and abilities to provide protections over workers: one suc…
Party Competition and the Inter-Industry Structure of US Trade Protection
Why do some declining industries receive more compensation through protectionist policies than others, even without actively engaging in lobbying? How does the political representation of industries affect their chances for protectionist relief? This paper argues that political parties seek to optimize electoral returns through the strategic allocation of distributive benefits generated by trade barriers. The inter-industry structure of protectio…
