Towards Better Understanding of Party‐Union Relationship: An Empirical Analysis
In many European democracies, political parties and trade unions have developed a long‐standing relationship. This relationship has certainly evolved over the last few decades as both actors have had to adapt to changes in their constituencies. This study examines the evolving dynamics between political parties and trade unions across Europe, with a focus on both Western and Central‐Eastern European contexts. It Is All About Money! What Drives Interest Groups’ Relations with Political Parties in Central and Eastern Europe
This article studies contacts between interest groups and political parties. Existing research suggests that times of close and formal cooperation between parties and groups in Western Europe are over as the contacts have become more pragmatic and sometimes spontaneous. Studies usually point to ideological proximity and resource exchange as the main factors behind contacts, however, focusing mainly on parties’ power and ideological position. Here…

Objective We investigate the influence of social contexts on democratic attitudes. Methods We use a novel survey data set with data from a nationally representative sample of Polish residents (egos) and their friends and acquaintances (alters). Results Controlling for several factors defined on the ego‐ and alter‐levels, we find a positive relationship between alters’ and ego's endorsement of democracy over nondemocratic alternatives. This effect…

A valid question is whether a system of interest groups is capable of ensuring the representation of a variety of public and private interests. Addressing this conundrum requires data that map the essential traits of organised interest groups in a given country, including their number (density) and types (diversity).…
Achieving Democracy Through Interest Representation: Interest Groups in Central and Eastern Europe
Political Parties and Trade Unions in the Post–Communist Poland: Class Politics that Have Never a Chance to Happen
Trade unions in Poland have not built the stable and long–term relations with political parties as are observed in Western democracies. By analysing the historical and symbolic background of the transformation to a democratic civil society and free market economy, political preferences of working class, trade union membership rates, and public opinion polls, we argue that, in case of Poland, the initial links between political parties and trade u…
