Discourse and Identity in East Germany
This article examines how anti-establishment parties contest Germany’s Zeitenwende. It codes 184 excerpts from Bundestag debates during the twentieth legislative term (2022−2024) and reads them alongside survey evidence on eastern German political culture. Drawing on discursive institutionalism, Feldman’s value-based identity theory, and ideational power, it finds that mainstream parties justify support for Ukraine through moral obligation, deter…
Gender-Bender Narratives
Gender norms have become a focal point of cultural debate and wedge issues in political elections, leading to discussions on how they may impact political and psychological processes and potentially radicalize individuals who feel threatened by or uncomfortable as the norms shift. We investigated the relationship between beliefs about gender-threatening disinformation narratives and radicalization, and the role of “fragile” masculinity and femini…

The Good, the Bad, and the Evil Media
In two experiments, this manuscript examines the impact of uncivil news comments for both users and newsrooms. The second study examined the target of the comments and determined that uncivil comments targeting the author of the story decreased media trust, and uncivil comments targeting t…
Reception of the novel “What is to be Done?” by N. G. Chernyshevsky
The goal of this research is to reveal the peculiarities of reception of the novel “What is to be Done?” by N. G. Chernyshevsky in the Soviet dramaturgy of the 1920s – 1930s. These texts fully reflect the concept of state order, the pursuance of “socialist realist” normatization, and thus, most vividly demonstrate the specificity of functionality of the fundamental mythological concepts in semantic field of the Soviet literature. Particular atten…

Both cross-sectionally and over time, this study examines the relationships between both partisan media use and media trust on misperceptions. In addition, it examines the relationship between misperceptions and avoiding partisan media sources that could correct partisan …

Russia–EU Relations, or How the Russians Really View the EU
The recent history and the current state of relations between Russia and the European Union (EU) reflect the geopolitical competition between the two powers over their contested neighbourhood – Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova. Although prioritizing the EU as its major trade and political partner, Russia is also conscious of its strategic interests in the ‘near abroad’. While there is little discrimination in the political discourse of Russian elites…
