Exploring the European professional soccer market
The European professional soccer market (EPSM) can be considered a network of player transfers between professional soccer clubs (PSCs). Using a social network perspective, we contribute to understanding inter-league transfer market dynamics, focusing on the strategic role played by PSCs within the network and the relevance of a globalized culture proximity among PSCs. An Exponential Random Graph Model (ERGM) tests four hypotheses considering fiv…
Modes of network governance revisited
The systematic literature review takes stock of the empirical literature on the governance of organizational networks. The analysis is based on empirical papers citing Provan and Kenis (2008) as the seminal article on the governance of networks. We synthesize key findings on the modes of network governance, contingency factors, and network‐level tensions. The review provides insights into how the contingency theory of network governance has devel…

Integrating care in FIanders (Belgium)
Introduction:The sustainability of the Flemish health system is under pressure of demographic and economic factors. This position is exacerbated by poor coordination of care provision for people with chronic health problems, difficulties in spreading innovations, and inefficient use of resources.Integrated care is seen as an important approach towards more demand-driven and cost-conscious health systems. In November 2013, a 4-year research project …
Analysing hydra-headed integrated care
Given that integrated care includes many different aspects, a study of how integration of care can be best be developed calls for an equally integrated research approach. The CORTEXS research project on integrated care in Flanders (Belgium) has developed a research design that takes (part of) this multi-facetedness and complexity into account. The research design involves multiple disciplines, levels of analysis, and methods. (1) The multidiscipl…
