  • The role of information on contentious firearm policy

Justin Jabar Joseph, Shantae Motley et al.•ARTICLE•Contemporary Justice Review•2023

Following highly publicized mass shootings on college campuses, more attention has been placed on making people feel safer at places of higher learning. In response, several states have passed campus carry policies, which permit conceal carry holders to carry their firearms on campus. Lawmakers have pursued these policies while ignoring the fact that most students and employees at college and universities are unsupportive of campus carry policies…

  • When charismatic leadership Trumps social networking

    Open Access•N Alexander Aguado•ARTICLE•Politics & Policy•2022•References: 12

This research examines the effect that information and communications technology, via social media, had on peoples' confidence in American democratic processes. This analysis focuses on mayor‐council and council‐manager cities to determine the effects that institutional arrangements had on municipal governments’ ability to implement austerity measures in a timely fashion. Using data from the International City/County Management Association, this st…

This article adds to the body of knowledge about city managers and council-manager form cities by determining why so few women are found in the ranks of city managers. Using graduates of the University of Kansas master of public administration (MPA) program as our sample, we find that women interested in city management careers face a paradox: Married women have a greater probability of becoming city managers. But if they marry and have children …

Civic engagement, through voluntary associational membership, is touted as the keystone of community. It is within these groups where people get a chance to come together to form the necessary social network connections needed to accomplish collective endeavors. Civic engagement can have a bridging effect, bringing disparate people and communities together. Civic engagement can also have a bonding effect on members, which builds strong in-group t…
