The Burial of Muslims in a Non-Islamic Context between Theory and Practice First Investigation into the Campania Case
This article is a response to the invitation of the Union of Italian Islamic Communities to the academic world to pay more attention to the issue of Islamic burial and cemetery spaces in Italy. It has two objectives. The first is to identify and analyse Islamic rules on burial in a non-Islamic context in order to verify their compatibility with Italian legislation. The second objective is to carry out an initial mapping of the existing Islamic ce…
Muslims in Europe and Covid-19
Covid-19 obliged the authorities of all countries to adopt a series of measures aimed at limiting the spread of the virus (e.g. social distancing and restrictions on internal and international movement), some of which prevent Muslims from performing, or only partially perform, some of their acts of worship, in particular those which, by requiring and/or prescribing the formation of an assembly, physical proximity or direct contact between those p…

Il corpo del cadavere nel diritto islamico contemporaneo
According to Muslim jurists the body belongs to God, who temporarily lends it to human beings, and therefore cannot be altered, except in the cases expressly provided for (circumcision, application of the ḥudūd punishments, etc.). Modifying the body is prohibited because it would violate its sacredness. The body of the human being is thus inviolable, and it is so both during life but also after death. And it is on the body after death, therefore …
The Image of Europe and the Role of its Muslims, as Portrayed in the Contemporary Islamic Debate on Muslim Minorities
This article examines one of several ways in which the Muslim presence in Europe is discussed or justified in Islamic terms. It mainly analyses the position of those scholars, some of them close to the Muslim Brotherhood (like Al-Qaradawi and Mawlawi), who have claimed that not only can Muslims live in Western Europe, but that they should live there. In fact, according to them Europe is a context in need of Muslims and that Muslims need it too: E…
(F) Muslim Emigration to the West
Currently there are about 43 million Muslims in Europe, 20 million of whom are in the Western part of the continent. The birth of these pockets of Muslim groups is mainly due to migration, motivated essentially by economic reasons. For this reason, some Muslims turn to jurists (fuqahāʼ) to learn if the migration they intend to undertake or have already undertaken to Western countries can be considered licit (ḥalāl) or not, under the Islamic law. …
Le Problematiche Socio-giuridiche Conesse All'immigrazione Islamica in Europa con Particolare Riguardo alla Situazione Italiana
This study deals with the migration flows from Islamic countries, or countries with large Islamic populations, to Europe. Particular attention is paid to the factors that explain these flows from the 1950s to the 1970s. After the restrictive policies or closure introduced in the 1970s, migration shows a clear trend towards permanent settling and takes on new and more defined characteristics. The social-juridical consequences related to these tran…
