Perfectionism at Work
Perfectionism, characterized by striving for excessively high standards and having overly critical self-evaluations, has attracted increasing interest in the work context in recent years. This review synthesizes the growing body of research on perfectionism in the workplace, exploring its impact on individual, leadership, team, and organizational dynamics. We review four conceptualizations of perfectionism—trait, state, behavioral, and domain-spe…
Do Differentiated Leader–Follower Relationships Matter for Collective Emotion? A Multilevel Investigation of LMX Differentiation, Work Group Positive Affect, and Trickle‐Out Effects on Customer Outcom…
Emotions pervade work groups and shape employee–customer interactions, yet little is known about how differentiated leader–member relationships shape affective experiences within work groups and beyond. Drawing on the integrated social comparison and emotion contagion framework, we examine the role of LMX differentiation on both employee and customer affective and service‐related outcomes. Using multilevel data from 1608 hair salon employees nest…
When Vulnerable Narcissists Take the Lead
Research to date provides only limited insights into the processes of abusive supervision, a form of unethical leadership. Leaders’ vulnerable narcissism is important to consider, as, according to the trifurcated model of narcissism, it combines entitlement with antagonism, which likely triggers cognitive and affective processes that link leaders’ vulnerable narcissism and abusive supervision. Building on conceptualizations of aggression as a sel…
Revisiting urban scaling through street-based hotspots across 360 Chinese cities
Extreme context exposure and counterproductive work behaviour
In recent years, research on extreme contexts has expanded significantly, focussing on management practices in unusual or atypical work environments. However, individual behavioural responses in these settings have received less attention. Our study addresses this gap by using Job‐Demand Resources (JD‐R) theory to explore how extreme context exposure (i.e. frequent exposure to extreme events) influences counterproductive work behaviour towards th…
Followers' unclear demands during the Covid‐19 pandemic can undermine leaders' well‐being
Although effective leaders are important for reducing employee stress during the COVID‐19, limited studies have examined how follower behaviors can influence leader stress and well‐being during the COVID‐19. This study draws on defeat‐entrapment theory to examine how followers' unclear demands during the COVID‐19 consequently impact leaders' psychological states and well‐being. We conducted a three‐wave time‐lagged investigation with a sample of …
The impact of workplace stressors on exhaustion and work engagement in policing
This paper uses the challenge-hindrance stressor framework to examine the impact of challenge and hindrance stressors on police officer and staff well-being. Results of two studies conducted in English police forces demonstrate that challenge stressors relate positively to the effort and enthusiasm individuals invest into their work. Findings also indicate that while challenge stressors are positively associated with exhaustion cross-sectionally …
Role of perceived events in university graduates' job search self-efficacy and success
Newcomers' relationship-building behavior, mentor information sharing and newcomer adjustment
How autonomy support and ethical value alignment influences attitudes towards diversity in English police
Antagonism towards diversity, an attitude reflecting low egalitarian ethical values, has been a topic within policing that has received increasing attention in the last decade. Using two-wave data and applying self-determination theory, we investigated how autonomy support versus autonomy frustration, ways of being motivated either through encouraging one’s sense of volition, or otherwise, coercing and imposing pressures, can improve diversity at…
