The influence of parental substance use on adolescent substance use
Parental substance use is a strong predictor of adolescent substance use, but empirical research has identified factors that can moderate that relationship. The objective of this study was to conduct a systematic review of those factors. Manuscripts were sought in 12 databases. Of the initial 6467 documents screened by title, abstract, and keywords, 101 were full‐text analyzed. Ultimately, 24 studies were eligible for this study. All steps of the…
Are Psychopathy Traits Related to the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools Among University Students? The Mediating Effect of Self-control
Based on the "brakes" model of self-control, this study sought to analyze if psychopathy traits are related to Artificial Intelligence use, and whether low levels of self-control mediate this hypothetical relation. A cross-sectional study involving 1687 undergraduate students was conducted. Psychopathy traits predicted more use of artificial intelligence, as well as using these tools to do academic work instead of the student and to create fake c…
Prescription and Non-Prescription Anxiolytic Use is Linked to Personal Characteristics Among University Students
Mental health promotion and substance use prevention are essential issues at universities worldwide. Although research has identified risk and protective factors for substance use generally among college students, there is a paucity of knowledge about anxiolytic use. Thus, the main objective of this study was to analyze if prescription and non-prescription anxiolytic use was related to self-control, self-esteem and self-efficacy. A cross-sectiona…
A longitudinal study on within-person developmental relations between bullying and cyberbullying with substance use in adolescents
The Influence of Different Dimensions of the Parent–Child Relationship in Childhood as Longitudinal Predictors of Substance Use in Late Adolescence. The Mediating Role of Self-Control
This study examined longitudinal links between several dimensions of parent–child relationship and adolescent substance use, and tested the role of self-control in mediating these. Data came from the Zurich Project on the Social Development from Childhood to Adulthood. Validated questionnaires were used to measure parent–child domains at age 11, self-control at age 13, and substance use at ages 13, 15, 17, and 20. Low positive parenting and paren…
A longitudinal study of protective factors against substance use in early adolescence. An ecological approach
The inclusion of families in substance use prevention programmes could be a key component in these interventions. Moreover, promotion of a positive school climate could protect adolescents from using substances
Adolescent Compliance with anti-Covid Measures. Is It Related to Substance Use
Prevalence rates of compliance with anti-COVID measures have been widely studied, but little is known about this issue in early adolescence. Moreover, the relation between substance use and compliance with anti-COVID regulations is still unexplored. Thus, this study aimed to determine the level of compliance with anti-COVID measures by adolescents and the link between substance use and compliance with anti-COVID regulations. This was a cross-sect…
Longitudinal stability and change in adolescent substance use
