  • Examining complementary relationships among climate change adaptation practices of rice producers in Chitwan, Nepal

Open Access•Hari P Regmi, Sreedhar Upendram et al.•ARTICLE•Climate and Development•2023

This study examines how the complementary relationships among multiple climate change adaptation strategies (improved varieties, irrigation practices and direct-seeded rice, referred to as ‘DSR’) are influenced by access to Extension services, training related to farming practices and weather-related information (referred to as ‘institutional factors’). This study hypothesizes the influence of institutional factors and the resulting effects on th…

  • Deriving site-specific and time-varying supply curves for forest carbon storage

    Seong‐hoon Cho, Seong-Hoon Cho et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Environmental Planning…•2020

We examine whether site-specific and time-varying supply functions for environmental benefits can be used to improve the design of conservation programs. We derive time-varying supply curves for site-specific forest carbon storage at the one-km2 pixel level for three periods for the southern Appalachian region of the United States. We couple a land use model with a carbon simulation model to estimate the opportunity cost of sequestering forest ca…

  • Applying Directed Acyclic Graphs to Assist Specification of a Hedonic Model

    Seong‐hoon Cho, Seong-Hoon Cho et al.•ARTICLE•Housing Studies•2012•References: 51

This research empirically tests the hypothesis that utilizing directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) as an ex-ante process to select variables for a hedonic model improves the model's performance. The results for both new and existing house submarkets indicated that DAG analysis mitigated the multicollinearity issue commonly observed in hedonic models. Using DAG analysis also improved the goodness-of-fit of the hedonic model for the new submarket. Howeve…

Open Access•Zhuo Chen, Zhuo Chen Zhuo Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•2009•Cited by: 8•References: 40

Three types of market segmentation strategies are available to estimate hedonic housing price models—i.e. no segmentation, segmentation by using statistical clustering methods and segmentation by using a priori information. This research tests the hypothesis of Tiebout theory that individual residential decision-making is determined by equilibrium provision of local public goods in accord with the tastes and preferences of residents, thereby sort…

  • Estimating Households’ Preferences for Environmental Amenities Using Equilibrium Models of Local Jurisdictions

    Open Access•Junjie Wu, Seong‐hoon Cho•ARTICLE•Scottish Journal of Political…•2003•References: 2

Much research has focused on the development of equilibrium models of local jurisdictions to analyze the formation of social structures and community characteristics. These models, however, have been subjected to little empirical testing. In a recent paper, Epple and Sieg (1999) developed a new method for estimating equilibrium models of local jurisdictions, but they did not include environmental amenities in their empirical application. In this …

  • Community Choices and Housing Demands: A Spatial Analysis of the Southern Appalachian Highlands

    Seong‐hoon Cho, Seong-Hoon Cho et al.•ARTICLE•Housing Studies•2005•References: 22

This paper examines housing demand using an integrated approach that combines residential decisions about choices of community in the Southern Appalachian region with the application of a Geographical Information System (GIS). The empirical model infers a distinctive heterogeneity in the characteristics of community choices. The results also indicate that socio-economic motives strongly affect urban housing demands while environmental amenities a…
