The association between aesthetic appeal and semantic distance of icons varying in concreteness
120 icons’ semantic distance (SD) and aesthetic appeal (AA) were assessed. • Strongest predictors were concreteness for SD and icon style familiarity for AA. • SD and AA have only a tiny inverse association when controlling for other factors. • The aesthetic-usability effect seems to be very weak in icons. • Familiarity might be the strongest factor for aesthetic-usability effect in icons. The aesthetic-usability effect asserts a positive relatio…

Group Decision Making in Multiobjective Optimization
Group decision making has been studied from several viewpoints and a variety of methods has been proposed. However, in the literature on solving multiobjective optimization problems, the main focus has been on supporting a single decision maker. We conducted a systematic literature review to examine and synthesize the state-of-the-art of multiobjective optimization methods developed for group decision making. We analyze group decision making meth…
Electroencephalographic (EEG) analysis of hue perception differences between art and non-art majors
These findings demonstrate that color perception differs between art and non-art groups, particularly in the neural processing of the P2 component. Warm and cool hues elicit stronger emotional and attentional responses, highlighting distinct cognitive mechanisms influenced by artistic expertise
Comparative analysis of color emotional perception in art and non-art university students
The findings reveal measurable differences in how art and non-art students emotionally evaluate color, particularly in response to variations in hue, brightness, and saturation. These results provide new insights into the nuanced emotional interpretation of color across populations, enriching our understanding of affective visual perception

Effects of context-sensitive distraction warnings on drivers’ smartphone use and acceptance
Driver distraction by smartphone use is a major contributor in traffic accidents. Context-sensitive driver (in)attention monitoring and warning systems might mitigate the associated risks. However, few naturalistic studies are yet available on the effects of such systems. In this paper, utility of context-sensitivity in inattention monitoring was studied by a smartphone-based context-sensitive distraction warning system. The warnings were based o…
Enhancing the user authentication process with colour memory cues
The authentication process is the first line of defence against potential impostors, and therefore is an important concern when protecting personal and organisational data. Although there are many options to authenticate digital users, passwords remain the most common authentication mechanism. However, with password numbers increasing, many users struggle with remembering multiple passwords, which affects their security behaviour. Previous resear…
Emotional Responses of Finnish and Spanish Audiences to Culturally Loaded Films
The success of a film depends not only on the quality of individual elements in the film but also on cultural factors that may influence the viewers’ reactions. In this study, we investigated the role of these factors by presenting Spanish and Finnish participants films produced in Finland, Spain, or the United States. Emotional reactions were assessed online through a response system synchronized with the films and offline through questionnaires…
