  • Landscape Archaeology of the Chuchuwayha Sacred Site (British Colombia, Canada)

Open Access•Jean‐jacques Delannoy, Anita Quiles et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2025•References: 3

New research is being conducted at the Chuchuwayha sacred site (British Columbia, Canada) at the request of the Upper Similkameen Indian Band, who want to pass on the site's history to future generations. The project's aims were to determine when this site in the glacial Similkameen Valley became accessible to human communities, to reconstruct the formation of the surrounding landscape, and to describe the rock shelter's evolution during the peri…

  • Paradigm shifts and ontological turns at Cloggs Cave, GunaiKurnai Country, Australia

Bruno David, Joanna Fresløv et al.•CHAPTER•Ontologies of Rock Art•2021

In recent years, a number of authors have theorized an “ontological turn” that is reorienting research in the human and social sciences. In this setting, we have witnessed an increasing number of anthropological and archaeological works seeking to recognize ontological difference among a variety of human groups, from Indigenous societies to Paleolithic hunter-gatherers. While ontological approaches have been restricted to anatomically modern huma…

  • Years and Worlds Apart: Rethinking the Holocene occupation of Cloggs Cave (East Gippsland, SE Australia) five decades after its initial archaeological excavation and in light of GunaiKurnai world view…

Bruno David, Joanna Fresløv et al.•ARTICLE•Australian Archaeology•2021•Cited by: 7•References: 10

In this paper we report on new research at the iconic archaeological site of Cloggs Cave (GunaiKurnai Country), in the southern foothills of SE Australia’s Great Dividing Range. Detailed chronometric dating, combined with high-resolution 3D mapping, geomorphological studies and archaeological excavations, now allow a dense sequence of Late Holocene ash layers and their contents to be correlated with GunaiKurnai ethnography and current knowledge. …

  • Geomorphological context and formation history of Cloggs Cave: What was the cave like when people inhabited it

Open Access•Jean‐jacques Delannoy, Bruno David et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2020•Cited by: 2•References: 10

New research undertaken at Cloggs Cave, in the foothills of the Australian Alps, employed an integrated geological-geomorphological-archaeological approach with manifold dating methods and fine resolution LiDAR 3D mapping. Long-standing questions about the site’s chronostratigraphy (e.g. the exact relationship between basal megafaunal deposits and archaeological layers), sedimentation processes and geomorphic changes were resolved. The cave’s for…
