Profiling the plight of adolescent girls and young women
AGYW in rural Uganda particularly those aged 20-25, face compounded vulnerabilities linked to poverty, violence, and school dropout. Strengthening education, economic empowerment, and GBV prevention is critical to reducing these risks and fostering resilience
Evaluating socio‐economic resilience interventions among out‐of‐school adolescent girls and young women in rural Central Uganda
This study evaluates the impact of a socio‐economic resilience intervention targeting out‐of‐school Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) in Uganda's Central Region. The study addresses a critical gap by focusing on out‐of‐school AGYW, a particularly underserved group, and assessing the sustained impact of integrated interventions that combine financial empowerment, social support, and gender‐based violence (GBV) prevention. A quasi‐experimenta…
Longitudinal Assessment of Health Knowledge, Life Skills, and Gender‐Based Violence Awareness Among Adolescent Girls and Young Women
Background Adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Uganda face disproportionate HIV and gender‐based violence (GBV) risks. The determined, resilient, empowered, AIDS‐free, mentored, and safe (DREAMS) program delivers layered biomedical, behavioral, and structural support, yet evidence of sustained benefit is limited. Methods Secondary data from 2829 DREAMS beneficiaries aged 9–28 years in four central districts were analyzed. Participants comp…
Effects of Covid-19, control measures, and program adaptation on prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission service uptake in Central Region, Uganda
COVID-19 control measures had a significant immediate negative impact on pregnancy deliveries at health facilities. During lockdown, all service rates rapidly recovered through program adaptations, significantly for HEI testing and deliveries. Maintaining these adaptations might help restore the positive trend in timely HIV testing for HEI
Trends of notification rates and treatment outcomes of tuberculosis cases with and without HIV co-infection in eight rural districts of Uganda (2015 – 2019)
The CNR increased among people with and without HIV while the TSR reduced among HIV-negative TB cases. There is need to refocus programs to address barriers to treatment success among HIV-negative TB cases
