    Open Access•D W Riggs, B A Lohmeyer et al.•ARTICLE•The British Journal of Social Work•2025•References: 19

While growing attention has been paid to the abuse of parents by their children, research to date has almost exclusively focused on parents who have birthed and/or conceived their child. Given that the trauma histories that foster children bring with them may result in abusive behaviours, it is vital to focus on the specific experiences of foster parents with regard to parental abuse. Among the global immigrant population, one of the fastest growing populations is the South Asian community. South Asian youth have experienced difficulties acculturating to the host culture. This scoping review will aim to summarize the literature available on acculturation and psychological well-being. The sco…

  • Factors associated with housing stability for Aboriginal families in South Australia

    Open Access•Arwen Nikolof, Stephanie Brown et al.•ARTICLE•Housing Studies•2024•References: 3

Stable, affordable and safe housing is a key determinant of health and wellbeing. Evidence from an Australian population-based cohort of 344 Aboriginal mothers and children aged 5-9 years shows that tenure type, financial difficulties and women's experience of partner violence are key drivers to housing stability. Stable housing was defined as moving house <= two times in the previous five years. Women had higher odds of stable housing if they ha…

    Open Access•Yvonne Clark•ARTICLE•Australian Psychologist•2000•Cited by: 6•References: 3

Aboriginal history since colonisation has been largely shaped by government policies. The most striking and destructive historical policies directed at Aboriginal people concerned those that advocated the removal of Aboriginal children from their parents and their placement in white foster homes or institutions. This paper reports on interviews with seven Indigenous participants who had been removed from their families and communities early in ch…
