Psychosocial and healthcare needs among carers in Chile
We explored the factors related to the perception of psychosocial or health support needs among 1,900 carers for people with disabilities or functional impairments in Chile. Being widowed or divorced, providing more hours of care and more personal care tasks, and experiencing higher caregiving difficulty were independently linked with an increased likelihood of reporting support needs. Experiencing low energy, anxious feelings and a low sense of …
Factors associated with loneliness in Latin-American family care partners during the Covid-19 pandemic
Regardless of their living and health situation, during the pandemic, loneliness increased in all groups of care partners. These should be taken in consideration when planning public health approaches for crises such as pandemics or other large-scale disruptive events
Effects of Anxiety, Stress and Perceived Social Support on Depression and Loneliness Among Older People During the Covid-19 Pandemic
During the COVID-19 pandemic, older people were exposed to high levels of anxiety and stress leading to loneliness and depressive disorders. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of anxiety, positive coping, perceived social support, and perceived stress on depression and loneliness among older people during the COVID-19 pandemic. This was a cross-sectional online/telephone survey. A non-probability convenience sampling …
Consequences of caring for the physical health, mental health and subjective well-being of Chilean older adults
Using a propensity score matching approach, this study evaluates the effect of caring on the physical health, mental health and subjective well-being of Chilean older people. The average treatment effect was not significant in any of the outcomes to physical health. However, older carers – and those who care intensely – were more likely to have depressive and anxious symptomatology and lower life satisfaction than older non-carers. Interventions …
Prevention and Early Treatment of Depression Through the Life Course
Predictors of Unmet Needs in Chilean Older People with Dependency
Approximately one in five Chilean older adults has some degree of dependency. Limited evidence is available on self-perceived needs in Latin-American older people. The main aim of this study was to identify predictors of unmet needs of dependent older persons without cognitive impairment, considering personal and primary informal caregivers' factors. This cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 77 dyads of older people with dependenc…
The Impact of a Yoga-Based Mindfulness Intervention versus Psycho-Educational Session for Older Adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment
Providing evidence-based programs such as preventive therapy for Alzheimer's disease has relevant implications for public mental health services in Chile
Predictors, Types of Internet Use, and the Psychological Well-Being of Older Adults
The findings support the importance of differentiating the types of Internet use to understand its impact on psychological well-being. Information seeking is associated with anxious symptomatology and is predicted by effort expectancy. On the contrary, leisure is crucial because of its relationship with anxious symptomatology, and less ageism can promote it. This information is useful for developing effective interventions that promote the well-b…
