  • The impacts of Confucianism on gender inequality in Vietnam

    Open Access•Tien Manh Vu, H Yamada•ARTICLE•The Journal of Economic Inequality•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 3

We quantify the influences of Confucianism on gender inequality in present-day Vietnam. Using an instrumental variable approach based on the historical expansion of Vietnamese territory and distances to the test venues, we consider the effects on labor, heal…

  • Do enterprise zones promote local business development? Evidence from Vietnam

    Open Access•Tien Manh Vu, H Yamada•ARTICLE•Journal of Regional Science•2022

We constructed a panel of communes during 2000–2007 using data on zone‐based firms, local firms, and zones. We found that zones led to an increased number of firms and increased employment in the communes hosting the zones, even after excluding zon…

  • Are Daughters Always the Losers in the Chore War? Evidence Using Household Data from Vietnam

Tien Manh Vu•ARTICLE•The Journal of Development Studies•2014

However, the gender gap in housework is negligible for children aged less than 14 years. A decline in the gender gap at 15 years of age suggests parents eventually begin to consider the education of their daughters. Before then, however, the gender gap increases with age and ca…
