Japan
The article analyzes the specifics of the influence of the media sphere on the state of mass consciousness in Japan. Using the example of the panic caused by the predictions of a catastrophic earthquake in Japan, “scheduled” for July 5, 2025, the author of the article shows the vulnerability of the Japanese mass consciousness, and an amazing degree of uncritical trust of the Japanese public in eschatological sensations. The author proceeds from t…
Cio-Cio-san syndrome
The article presents an analysis of trends and constants in Japanese public opinion related to traditional and new threats in 2023-2024. At the same time, polls demonstrate an index of ‘closeness’ (sympathy) to the United States in the mass consciousness of Japanese residents that is so high (87.4%) that at first glance it defies rational explanation. To ‘disenchant’ this phenomenon, the author proposes the metaphor of the ‘Cio-Cio-san syndrome,’…

Interdependence of Russo-Japanese Relations and Mutual Images of Japan and Russia
The current efforts of Moscow and Tokyo to unblock the territorial impasse are complicated by some barriers of a socio-psychological character, including mutual mistrust and contradictory images of past events. Public opinion surveys reveal predominant vectors in Russo-Japanese relations, which the authors believe strongly correlate with the evolution of the contradictory images. Apparently, these images surprisingly exhibit interrelated ‘mirror’…
Is There a Non-Western Political Science? (Political Theory by Takashi Inoguchi)
Russian Politics through Prism of Sociological Measurements
The starting point for the author of this essay was the book “Russia surprises. 2015”, prepared by a partnership of leading think tanks – Social Design Center “Platforma”, All-Russian Center of Public Opinion Research (VTsIOM), and the Institute of Socio-Economic and Political Reseasrch (ISEPR Foundation). American World Order
It seems that everyone has already realized that our world enters a period of fundamental changes and the formation of a new world order. Today, the question of how the modern world will develop is one of the most vital problems of international relations. Therefore, I want to once again prudently refer to the books by J. John Ikenberry and Acharya Amitav on the American World Order (AWO)? Both books represent a lucid, intelligent, and thought-pr…

The Notion of Foreign Policy Mentality and Methodology of Its Study
Political Tendencies in Russia's Regions
Most analyses of the consequences of the December 1993 elections have focused on the State Duma that was elected and its likely role in the Russian political process at the national level. The purpose of this study is to go beyond the more obvious impact of the elections to examine underlying patterns and tendencies that could be significant for Russia's future as a federal, multiethnic state. Data on voting for the parliament by party list permi…
Ethnic Stereotypes and Their Influence on the Shaping of Public Opinion
Numerous articles have appeared in our press analyzing the phenomenon of the nationalistic passions running rampant in the national states formed on the ruins of the disintegrated USSR as well as in Russia itself. However, sometimes the cultural and sociopsychological roots of these alarming metamorphoses remain marginal to the interests of investigators. The nationalistic outbursts in the Transcaucasus, Central Asia, and Moldova, as well as in o…
