Assessing the Development in Open Access Publishing in Archaeology
This article examines open access (OA) publishing within archaeology by using Norway as a case study. The authors present data on research publications ( n = 1,517) produced by archaeologists at Norwegian universities between 2010 and 2021 and classified according to their OA status. The aim is to analyze trends in OA publishing during this period and assess how it aligns with official policies and initiatives from lawmakers, funders, and institu…
Comparing Summed Probability Distributions of Shoreline and Radiocarbon Dates from the Mesolithic Skagerrak Coast of Norway
By developing a new methodology for handling and assessing a large number of shoreline dated sites, this paper compares the summed probability distribution of radiocarbon dates and shoreline dates along the Skagerrak coast of south-eastern Norway. Both measures have previously been compared to elucidate demographic developments in Fennoscandia, but these have not been based on probabilistic methods for shoreline dating. The findings indicate a la…
Exploring the composition of lithic assemblages in Mesolithic South-Eastern Norway
Algorithmic Classification and Statistical Modelling of Coastal Settlement Patterns in Mesolithic South-Eastern Norway
This paper presents and contrasts procedures and conceptual underpinnings associated with statistical modelling and machine learning in the study of past locational patterns. This was done by applying the methods of logistic regression and random forest to a case study of coastal Mesolithic settlement patterns in southern Norway—a context that has not been subject to formal locational pattern analysis in the past. While the predictive accuracy of…
