Fortified landscape: Rediscovering the Eneolithic site in Bronocice
As part of a new research project at the famous site in Bronocice, Pińczów County (SE Poland), preliminary work, including magnetic prospecting, was conducted in 2020. This provided a new understanding of the Eneolithic settlement, significantly enhancing the data from excavations in the 1970s. The magnetic survey covered an area of over 50ha, enabling the identification of all three main zones of the site. The layout of ditches associated with d…
The oldest farmers’ settlement from Poland. New interdisciplinary data on chronology and economy from the Gwoździec site
In der zweiten Hälfte des 6. Jahrtausends v.

Tracing the Past: Microwear Analysis of Stone and Shell Beads Unearthed in Early Neolithic Burials at Samborzec, Poland
This paper presents a thorough analysis of ornaments discovered in two Neolithic burials at Samborzec Site 1, providing valuable insights into their origins and significance. The artefacts, retrieved over six decades ago in the burials of a woman and child, have undergone extensive examination, including raw material identification, microwear studies, and the analysis of red residues found on their surfaces. While most of the ornaments concerned …
Organisation of activities in settlements of the southeastern group of the Funnel Beaker Culture. Patterns of use and deposition of lithic artefacts from Zawarża, Site 2, Pińczów commune
The aim of the study is to provide an insight in the possible modes of use of space and organization of work within the settlements of the south-eastern group of Funnel Beaker Culture (FBC SE) utilizing framework for integrating use-wear of lithic artefacts and intra-site analyses of their deposition patterns. Those analyses concerns Site 2 in Zawarża, Pińczów commune. Excavations on the site spanned from 1959 to 1963, culminating in the uncoveri…
LBK settlement network in the eastern part of the Wiśnicz Foothills
The Foothills of the Northern Carpathian region were an important part of the ecumene of the Linear Pottery Culture (LBK), as witnessed by the repetitive pattern of settlement in such areas. Multiple sites associated with this archaeological culture can be found near the Raba basin in the region of Wieliczka and Bochnia, as well as in the Rzeszów Foothills. Among these, the complex of LBK sites in the Dunajec basin stands out, as most distant fro…
Some remarks on flat graves of south-eastern group of Funnel Beakers Culture
So called flat graves of south-eastern group of Funnel Beaker Culture (FBC SE) is a phenomenon underrepresented in archaeological studies of the Eneolithic. Researchers’ focus on “the megalithic idea” in recent decades left other forms of burial largely unexplored. In fact, it seems, that even 70% of graves of FBC SE could be described as latter group. In this study, some comment on localisation within cemeteries, constructions and orientation of…
The Upper Palaeolithic at Trenčianske Bohuslavice, Western Carpathians, Slovakia
Trenčianske Bohuslavice Gravettian site has been known since the early 1980s, with possibly the longest sequence of Upper Palaeolithic human occupation in the region, including a peculiar assemblage of lithic tools composed of bifacial leaf points. This paper presents the results of the 2017 excavation season that produced new data on the absolute chronology, stratigraphy, paleobotany, archaeology, and archaeozoology of the site. We found that th…
