  • FTIR spectroscopy and multivariate analysis of Late Roman ceramics from Anemurium (Cilicia Tracheia)

Open Access•Ismail Tarhan, Zafer Korkmaz et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2026

  • An archaeometric study on the explanation of nutritional habits in the Neolithic period of Western Anatolia

Open Access•Ismail Tarhan, Şeküre Çelikten et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2024•References: 2

  • Evaluation of a Clay-Covered Votive Pit From Küllüoba in Light of Interdisciplinary Research

Open Access•Murat Türkteki, Can Yümni Gündem et al.•ARTICLE•Türkiye Bilimler Akademisi…•2023

The end of the 3rd millennium BCE, known as the Early Bronze Age (EBA) III in Anatolia, is the period when the first urban societies developed and the inter-regional exchange networks that extended from Northern Syria to the Aegean region and the Balkans increased. The spread of new technologies such as the potter's wheel, the weight systems, metallurgy, and the practice of sealing, as well as the circulation of small prestige objects such as the…

  • Characterization of a late bronze age “Kohl Box” from the Cilician Plain using FTIR and GC–MS

    Open Access•Ismail Tarhan, F Şahin•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2023•References: 7

  • An archaeometric study of the Konya basin metallic ware through FTIR and XRD analysis with chemometrics

Open Access•Ismail Tarhan, Michele Massa et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2023•References: 43

Fourier‐transform infrared, X‐ray diffraction and chemometrics were used to characterize the mineralogical composition and firing conditions of 59 Early Bronze Age ceramic sherds from the Konya Plain (Turkey). These include the Konya Basin Metallic Ware (KBMW) and a control group of contemporary local products. The analysis indicates significant differences in mineral inclusions and firing temperatures, with KBMW generally being fired above 800°C…

  • Toward an understanding of the exchange in ancient scented oils through organic residue analysis of Bronze Age Near Eastern ceramic bottles by GC‐MS

Open Access•Ismail Tarhan, Michele Massa et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2023•References: 51

This paper presents a gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry (GC‐MS) organic residue analysis (ORA) of samples extracted from five Early Bronze Age ceramic bottles excavated at the archaeological site of Küllüoba in Anatolia (modern Turkey), and the first attempt at directly analysing the content of this category of products. Our results show that various types of liquid have been contained in different bottles and identify the presence of dicarbox…

  • The study of Middle Bronze Age pottery from Yassıtepe Höyük site in İzmir, Turkey, by FTIR and XRD with chemometrics

Open Access•Ismail Tarhan, Zafer Derin et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2022

  • Investigations of the ancient ceramic sherds excavated from Börükçü site in Muğla, south‐western Turkey, by ATR‐FTIR spectroscopy and statistical multivariate analysis

    Open Access•İlker Işık, Ismail Tarhan•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2021

This paper presents the mineralogical characterization of 56 sherd samples from the Börükçü site in Muğla, Turkey. Principal component analysis (PCA) employing raw attenuated total reflectance Fourier‐transform infrared (ATR‐FTIR) spectra (825–400 cm −1 ) with 17 smoothing points discriminated the sherd samples into five different groups (A–E). The second‐derivative ATR‐FTIR spectra (two polynomial degrees and 11 smoothing points) between 1700 an…

  • Börükçü Kurtarma Kazısındaki Arkeolojik Seramik Örneklerin Spektroskopik Analizleri

Open Access•İlker Işık, İlker IŞIK et al.•ARTICLE•PHASELIS•2020

  • Characterization Studies of Ceramic Samples From Yenikapi Excavations

İlker Işık, Ismail Tarhan•ARTICLE•The Journal of Social Sciences•2020

Bu çalışmada, İstanbul Arkeoloji Müzeleri tarafından yürütülen Marmaray metro istas-yon inşaatı alanındaki Yenikapı kurtarma kazılarından getirilen 7 adet arkeolojik seramik ör-neği ele alınmıştır. Neolitik Dönem’den Bizans ve Türk dönemlerine değin buluntu veren yerleşim üzerindeki seramik örneklerin fırınlama sıcaklıklarının ve şartlarının tespiti için ATR-FTIR spektroskopisi tekniği uygulanmıştır. Örneklere ait ATR-FTIR spektrumları, 1800-400 …
