The efficacy of parenting interventions for forced migrant families on child internalizing and externalizing symptoms, parental self-efficacy, and parental competence: A systematic review and meta-ana…
Forced migration has reached unprecedented levels worldwide. Involuntarily migration creates stressors for families that require systematic action at a societal level. Our premise is that parenting programmes have an untapped potential to enhance psychosocial health among parents and children. The aim of this study, therefore, was to review existing studies to evaluate the efficacy of preventive parenting programmes for parents who were refugees,…
A brief universal parenting program for recently settled immigrants in Sweden: A feasibility study
The accumulative migration stressors and challenges of parenting adolescent children in a new cultural context indicate a need for culturally sensitive parenting programs to support parents with immigrant backgrounds. This study evaluated preliminary outcomes, acceptability, and feasibility of a new brief universal 4-session universal parenting program delivered in mother tongue. The aim is to strengthening parenting skills and ultimately resilie…
Holding it together: A longitudinal study of psychological distress and associated factors in mothers with cancer
Women with cancer tend to report higher levels of psychological distress than men with cancer. A deeper understanding of how modifiable psychological factors are related to psychological distress in mothers with cancer could inform targeted prevention strategies. The aim of this study was to investigate how the modifiable psychological factors; parenting concerns, self-efficacy, and emotion regulation strategies, are associated with symptoms of d…
Aiming for Integration’—Acculturation Strategies Among Refugee Youth in Sweden: A Qualitative Study Using a Resilience Framework
In 2022, one in 20 minors in Sweden had a refugee background. As most refugees do not return to their countries of origin, understanding successful resettlement should be prioritised. Acculturation and psychological resilience are useful concepts, as both acknowledge the interplay between individual and contextual factors in sociocultural adjustment. However, less is known about the role of resilience in the selection and maintenance of accultura…
Psychometric evaluation of the Swedish version of ages and stages questionnaire social-emotional: Second edition for parents of children 18 months of age
The results of this study highlight that the original Swedish version of the ASQ:SE-2 for 18-month-old children may not be an adequate tool for assessing social and emotional competencies in a normal population since acceptable reliability was reached only in children with the greatest difficulties (above the 78th percentile). In conclusion, the suggested 18-item version works best either as a screening instrument for problems with social interac…
VR-assisted aggression treatment in forensic psychiatry: A qualitative study in patients with severe mental disorders
The present findings suggest further studies are needed on how to best implement VR-assisted treatments for aggression in forensic settings, and potentially further modification of treatment content in interventions like VRAPT
Pinpointing change in virtual reality assisted treatment for violent offenders: A pilot study of Virtual Reality Aggression Prevention Training (VRAPT)
Preventing relapse into violence and its destructive consequences among persistent re-offenders is a primary concern in forensic settings. The Risk-Need-Responsivity framework models the best current practice for offender treatment, focused on building skills and changing pro-criminal cognitions. However, treatment effects are often modest, and the forensic context can obstruct the delivery of interventions. Developing treatments for offenders sh…
Multi-level barriers and facilitators to implementing a parenting intervention in prison, perceptions from deliverers and responsible managers: A mixed-methods study
This study showed that there was high engagement among deliverers and managers for working with parenting in prison, where the need among parents has been described as great. Additional resources and support within the overall Prison and Probation Service, is vital to facilitate implementation of FOCS and make it sustainable within the prisons. The findings can be used to refine an implementations structure for similar interventions in the prison…
Parent Management Training Combined with Group-CBT Compared to Parent Management Training Only for Oppositional Defiant Disorder Symptoms: 2-Year Follow-Up of a Randomized Controlled Trial
Parent management training (PMT) is recommended treatment for children with oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and child-directed cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is also recommended for school-aged children. The current study examined 2-year follow-up effects of parent management training (PMT) combined with the CBT based group intervention Coping Power Program (CPP) compared to PMT only. Results showed long-term effectiveness of both PMT and P…
The Efficacy of Parent Management Training With or Without Involving the Child in the Treatment Among Children with Clinical Levels of Disruptive Behavior: A Meta-analysis
A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted where we evaluated the effects of Parent Management Training (PMT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and PMT combined with child cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) using data from 25 RCTs on children with clinical levels of disruptive behavior (age range 2-13 years). Results showed that PMT (g = 0.64 [95% CI 0.42, 0.86]) and PCIT (g = 1.22 [95% CI 0.75, 1.69]) were more effective than wai…
Refugee parents’ experiences of coming to Sweden: A qualitative study
Each year, millions of people worldwide are forced to leave their homes. Many of those affected are families. There are already a considerable number of initiatives designed to support refugees who are resettling in new countries and cultures. However, few are promotive interventions aiming to support parents and thereby their children through the extraordinary challenges they face. To develop a culturally adaptive intervention, more knowledge ab…
