‘Women, Life, Freedom’
In this study, we report on the experiences of Iranian English language teachers after the domestic Women, Life, Freedom social movement. We situate the study within a critical language pedagogy perspective, and draw on a framework with the three-pronged values of liberty, equality, and community to explore how this social movement, which subsequently earned global renown, shaped our participant teachers’ identity construction. Data were collecte…
The efficacy of parenting interventions for forced migrant families on child internalizing and externalizing symptoms, parental self-efficacy, and parental competence
Forced migration has reached unprecedented levels worldwide. Involuntarily migration creates stressors for families that require systematic action at a societal level. Our premise is that parenting programmes have an untapped potential to enhance psychosocial health among parents and children. The aim of this study, therefore, was to review existing studies to evaluate the efficacy of preventive parenting programmes for parents who were refugees,…
A brief universal parenting program for recently settled immigrants in Sweden
The accumulative migration stressors and challenges of parenting adolescent children in a new cultural context indicate a need for culturally sensitive parenting programs to support parents with immigrant backgrounds. This study evaluated preliminary outcomes, acceptability, and feasibility of a new brief universal 4-session universal parenting program delivered in mother tongue. The aim is to strengthening parenting skills and ultimately resilie…
Reward responses to food stimuli across sensory modalities
Food reward responses are guided both by hunger as a homeostatic need state and by the perceptual evaluation of food cues. Whether interactions between the two vary depending on the sensory modality through which food cues are presented, however, remains unclear. In a preregistered within-subject study, we tested whether modulations of food reward valuation by hunger are more pronounced for food odors compared to food pictures. Participants (N = …
Evaluating a program to prevent anxiety in children of anxious parents
BACKGROUND: Pediatric anxiety disorders are prevalent, particularly among children with anxious parents. This trial evaluated a program for anxious parents aimed at preventing offspring anxiety disorders and symptoms over 12 months. METHODS: This parallel, randomized, controlled, open-label trial was conducted at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. Inclusion criteria comprised heightened parental anxiety and the child (5-9 years old) not cu…
Language Teachers’ Development of Decision‐Making and Pedagogical Reasoning
Decision‐making and pedagogical reasoning are two of the underlying skills in language teaching. Integrating sociocultural theory (SCT) into teachers’ classroom decisions can be one novel way to inform their decisions with pedagogical reasoning. This study adopted peer coaching as an SCT‐oriented inquiry‐based approach to professional development and drew on the concepts of the zone of proximal development and mediation. Two novice teachers of En…
Aiming for Integration’—Acculturation Strategies Among Refugee Youth in Sweden
In 2022, one in 20 minors in Sweden had a refugee background. As most refugees do not return to their countries of origin, understanding successful resettlement should be prioritised. Acculturation and psychological resilience are useful concepts, as both acknowledge the interplay between individual and contextual factors in sociocultural adjustment. However, less is known about the role of resilience in the selection and maintenance of accultura…
A psychometric evaluation of the parental acceptance and action questionnaire (Paaq) in parents of children with and without disabilities
Parental psychological inflexibility, particularly characterized by experiential avoidance, represents a significant risk factor for chronic stress and psychological distress. The Parental Acceptance and Action Questionnaire (PAAQ) is a context-specific instrument for the measurement of parental psychological inflexibility. This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the original composite version of the 19-item PAAQ across the th…
School‐based self‐harm prevention programs
Both self‐harm and suicidal behaviors have been targeted through school‐based prevention programs, many of which have been developed in the United States. The aims of this systematic review were to assess effects of school‐based prevention programs on suicide and self‐harm and to evaluate whether they are fit to the exporting culture. The review followed Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Our i…
Swedish parents' satisfaction and experience of facilitators and barriers with Family Check‐up
Family Check‐up (FCU) was introduced in Sweden more than a decade ago. Little is known about what parents experience as FCU's key mechanisms leading to changes in parenting. The aim of this study was to investigate Swedish parents' satisfaction with FCU, and their experiences of facilitators and barriers for making changes in their parenting. A mixed methods approach was employed using a parent satisfaction questionnaire ( n = 77) and focus group…
ACT-based self-help for perceived stress and its mental health implications without therapist support
Access to interventions that effectively reduce stress is limited and often costly. Lack of time, and stigma might also be significant barriers. This study examined the effectiveness of an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)-based self-help book without therapist support for adults with moderate levels of stress, without psychiatric diagnoses. Participants were recruited primarily through the website of the book and posts in various social me…
Refugee parents’ experiences of coming to Sweden
Each year, millions of people worldwide are forced to leave their homes. Many of those affected are families. There are already a considerable number of initiatives designed to support refugees who are resettling in new countries and cultures. However, few are promotive interventions aiming to support parents and thereby their children through the extraordinary challenges they face. To develop a culturally adaptive intervention, more knowledge ab…
Anonymous Online Survey on Disordered Eating, Drive for Muscularity, Sexual Orientation, and Satisfaction with Life in Young Swedish Males
Psychiatric conditions in general, including eating disorders, are stigmatizing conditions. The stigma of eating disorders is even more pronounced among males. We conducted an anonymous, online survey to explore the feasibility of recruiting participants for collecting sensitive information, and the relation among eating disorders, drive for muscularity, satisfaction with life, and sexual preference in males ( N = 824) aged 15–30 years in Sweden.…
Two randomized controlled trials of the efficacy of acceptance and commitment therapy‐based educational course for body shape dissatisfaction
The main aim of this project was to explore the efficacy of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)‐based educational course in different formats (i.e., pure and guided self‐help with different durations, and guided self‐help with and without access to a discussion forum) for body shape dissatisfaction. Two randomized controlled studies (RCT) were carried out. In the first RCT, the participants were randomized to a 12‐ or 16‐week guided self‐help…
Two-factor higher-order model of perfectionism in Iranian general and clinical samples
The results support the two-factor higher-order model of perfectionism in samples of Iranian females from the general population and clinical sample. However, the results were different for males from the general population. In other words, the modified two-factor higher-order model showed acceptable fit with the data for males from the general population only after removing the Rumination scale from perfectionistic concerns. These differences am…
SDQ in the Hands of Fathers and Preschool Teachers—Psychometric Properties in a Non-clinical Sample of 3–5-Year-Olds
The Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) is a well-established instrument for measuring social and behavioural problems among children, with good psychometric properties for older children, but less validity reports on pre-schoolers. In addition, there is a knowledge gap concerning fathers as informants. The present work is one of the few validity studies to include preschool teachers and the first on preschool children where fathers ar…

Eighteen-Month Follow-Up of Internet-Based Parent Management Training for Children with Conduct Problems and the Relation of Homework Compliance to Outcome
Prevalence, Characteristics, and Correlates of Teasing Experiences among Overweight Children vs. Non‐overweight Peers
Objective : Information regarding the prevalence, nature, sources, and psychosocial correlates of teasing was obtained for overweight (OV) children (10 to 14 years of age) vs. non‐overweight (non‐OV) peers. It was hypothesized that weight‐related teasing would be negatively correlated with self‐esteem in specific domains and with enjoyment of physical/social activities and positively correlated with loneliness, bulimic behaviors, body dissatisfac…
