  • The Pharmacopeia of Ancient Egyptian Alabaster Vessels

Open Access•Andrew Koh, Agnete Wisti Lassen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Eastern Mediterranean…•2025•References: 2

Two decades ago, the first organic residue samples ever extracted by ARCHEM came from legacy objects excavated by Flinders Petrie at Sedment, Egypt, which are now in the Penn Museum. They included Cypriot Base Ring juglets and plain Egyptian alabaster (i.e., calcite) vessels. After years of refining nondestructive sampling protocols and developing a transdisciplinary, tripartite approach to organic residue analysis fusing ethnography, science, an…

  • Phoenician Cedar Oil from Amphoriskoi at Tel Kedesh

Andrew J Koh, Andrew Koh et al.•ARTICLE•Bulletin of the American Schools…•2020

Archaeologists and historians have routinely attributed “branded” goods to particular regions and cultural groups, often without rigorous analysis. Phoenician cedar oil is perhaps one of the best-known examples from antiquity. Andrew Koh, Miriam G Clinton•ARTICLE•Journal of Eastern Mediterranean…•2015•References: 13

Scholars have long been aware of tombs in the western Siteia foothills of Crete, dating to the end of the Bronze Age and yielding an array of notable finds. While detailed analyses of these finds have been invaluable, the settlements to which the tombs were tied have proven elusive. Using topographic and GIS studies, this article analyzes the broader archaeology of these foothills to link the burials to their settlements. We now know that the tom…

  • Rethinking Canaanite Palaces? The Palatial Economy of Tel Kabri during the Middle Bronze Age

    Assaf Yasur-Landau, Eric H Cline et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Field Archaeology•2015•Cited by: 9•References: 29

Here we explore aspects of Canaanite palatial economy through an analysis of finds from the Middle Bronze Age palace at Tel Kabri, a 34 ha site located in the western Galilee of modern day Israel. The palace was founded in the middle part of the MBA I period, and continued without interruption until an advanced part of the MBA II period. Despite the fact that the Kabri palace was vast (perhaps up to 6000 sq m), functioned as the center of a polit…
