  • The Real Worlds of Welfare Capitalism

Open Access•Robert E Goodin, Bruce Headey et al.•BOOK•Real Worlds of Welfare Capitalism•1999

The Real Worlds of Welfare Capitalism traces how individuals fare over time in each of the three principal types of welfare state. In this paper we analyse the effects, over time, of the liberal (US), corporatist (German) and social democratic (Dutch) welfare states on poverty, inequality and income redistribution 1985–89. Unlike previous international comparisons relying on static frameworks and cross-sectional data, we use panel data from the Dutch Socio-Economic Panel (SEP), the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP), and the American Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID) — a…

    Henk‐jan Dirven, Jos Berghman•ARTICLE•Innovation The European Journal…•1995•References: 1

The results show that 9.2% of the population lived below the legal poverty line in 1988 and 14.7% below the Subjective Poverty Line. Income poverty appeared to be strongly related to the socio‐economic group of the head of household and the main source of income in the household. Reflecting the increase in income inequality in The Ne…

  • A Multi-Method Approach To Monitor the Evolution of Poverty

Open Access•Ruud Muffels, Jos Berghman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of European Social Policy•1992•Cited by: 13

In this article the authors present the results of research on the evolution of income poverty, insecurity of subsistence and relative deprivation. Using socio-economic panel data of the late 1980s in The Netherlands (1985- 88) they sketch the incidence and distribution of poverty applying a multi-method approach, in which income and consumption approaches of poverty are used as complements to each other. Their results show that income and consum…
