  • Investigating correlates of personal and freight road transport energy consumption

Open Access•Jingjing Zhao, Shahram Heydari et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Transport Geography•2023•References: 2

In most countries worldwide, the transport sector is responsible for a large proportion of energy consumption, the emissions of which have adverse effects on the environment and human health. It is therefore important to understand the determinants of road transport energy consumption in an attempt to minimise these adverse effects. This paper examines the association which road transport energy consumption, for both personal and freight uses, ha…

  • Investigating the association between neighbourhood characteristics and e-scooter safety

Open Access•Shahram Heydari, Michael Forrest et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Cities and Society•2022

The uptake of e-scooters as an alternative mode of travel has risen sharply in recent years; however, their safety is less-understood compared to other modes of travel. For the first time in the extant literature, we explore the association between neighbourhood characteristics and e-scooter safety in Greater London, UK. We found that, over the study period, the expected e-scooter crash frequency was the highest in the City of London, followed by…

    Open Access•M David Forrest, Michael Forrest•ARTICLE•Polity•2016•Cited by: 2•References: 38

The central goal of most American politics scholarship – and, indeed, of much of modern political science – is to foster more precise accounts of political and social life, that is, accounts that reduce uncertainty about politics and society. Drawing on Marx's call for a "ruthless criticism," this article outlines the contours and promise of a more disruptive American politics. Rather than reduce uncertainty about politics and society, disruptive…

  • Consensus and Crisis

    M David Forrest, Michael Forrest•ARTICLE•New Political Science•2013

The recent financial crisis in the US has stemmed, in part, from the persistent failure of political elites to effectively represent the poor. This article examines this failure, casting it as a matter of discourse. During the post-civil rights era, political elites have directed their efforts on behalf of the poor through a series of consensual discourses. The consensus they enact is, more specifically, between two ascendant traditions: advanced…

  • Social and Economic Justice Movements and Organizations

Dara Z Strolovitch, M David Forrest et al.•CHAPTER•The Oxford handbook of American…•2010

This article explores the debates about organizations that represent and activate populations that were mobilized by social movements during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. It also investigates the representation of chronically marginalized constituencies, especially women, racial minorities, gays and lesbians, and the poor. Research demonstrating the limitations of business power suggests that there are circumstances under which public interest gro…
