  • My enemy’s enemies are my friends: Alternative sources of support in multi-party races

Carlos Eduardo Lampert Costa•ARTICLE•Economic and Political Studies•2022•References: 19

The research on redistributive strategies to secure support has been dominated by a core and swing voter model, which pits two parties against each other in a costly race for support. What are other options beyond targeting either swing or one’s own core voters? This paper identifies a political scenario where core supporters from other parties are viable targets and sets out to test three dimensions that indicate when actors can effectively targ…

  • Conditional Cash Transfers and Homogeneous Spaces: The Politics of Multiplicative Effects

    Open Access•Carlos Eduardo Lampert Costa•ARTICLE•Latin American Policy•2020•Cited by: 1•References: 23

  • Survival of the Fittest: Explaining the Success of Ethnic Autonomy Arrangements

Open Access•Liam Anderson, Cristina Maria Maués Da Costa et al.•ARTICLE•Swiss Political Science Review•2016•Cited by: 6•References: 51

What accounts for the survival of some systems and not others? We theorize that that this differential survival rate is partly a function of variation in their internal structure. EAAs that are structured to create and best sustain an equilibrium in bargaining relations between center d p…

  • The political economy of party building: Theory and evidence from Peru’s infrastructure development programme

Open Access•Cristina Maria Maués Da Costa, Carlos Eduardo Lampert Costa•ARTICLE•Party Politics•2013•Cited by: 3•References: 22

This article theorizes the strategies used by parties to expand their support base, with a particular focus on the allocation of party goods. Here, we theorize that nascent parties with goods to hand out will favour a particular type of societal group, which we name private-gain-seeking groups. We utilize Peru’s party system collapse following Fujimori’s rule as an opportunity to test our hypotheses, which state that political parties will favour…
