From Vision to Unbuilt Reality
Increasing housing burdens among low- and middle-income earners urgently calls for affordable housing development in transit-oriented development (TOD) areas. We use the District NoHo Project in California as a case to explore challenges in planning for affordable housing in TOD projects. We employ thematic analysis of secondary documents and data from interviews with key players. We find that, changing visions of the transit agency in terms of a…
Safety and Solidarity After the Boston Marathon Bombing
This article investigates the effect of the Boston Marathon Bombing on city residents— how the tragic incident changed, or did not change, how Bostonians live in and feel about their community and neighborhoods. Unlike prior research that began weeks or months after a terrorist attack and used retrospective reports, this study spans the focal event. The article also explores whether greater confidence leads to greater agreement between patients and s…

The National STD and Behavior Measurement Experiment (NSBME) evaluates a new survey technology-telephone audio computer-assisted self-interviewing (T-ACASI)-that eliminates this r…

Measuring Public Priorities for Insurable Health Care
The goal of this research was to develop and evaluate a way to measure the value people place on various medical services in their decisions about what health insurance should cover. A vignette approach to measuring consumer values was developed. People were asked to assign priority and desire to have insurance cover 64 different services. A national probability sample of 206 adults was interviewed by telephone. Their ratings were compared with t…
