In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, instructors in higher education have reported a decline in foundational reading habits, particularly in STEM courses where dense, technical texts are common. This study examines a low-barrier instructional intervention that used generative AI (GenAI) to support pre-class preparation in two upper-division biology courses. Weekly AI-generated audio overviews—“podcasts”—were paired with timed, textbook-base…
Late Quaternary alluvial fan stratigraphy and chronology, Elqui, Turbio and Claro valleys, semiarid Andes of Chile
Geospatial Analysis of the Proportion of Persons Defined as Underrepresented in Medicine for Each Medical School and Their Surrounding Core-Based Statistical Area
Background: The current approach to increasing diversity in medical education fails to consider local community demographics when determining medical school matriculation. Purpose: We propose that medical schools better reflect their surrounding community, both because racially/ethnically concordant physicians have been shown to provide better care and to repair the historical and current racist impacts of these institutions that have criminalize…
Implementation fidelity to a behavioral diabetes prevention intervention in two New York City safety net primary care practices
The trial was registered with ClinicalTrials.gov on 30/12/2016 and the registration number is NCT03006666
A multi-proxy reconstruction of depositional environment of a Late Pleistocene submerged site from the Central Coast of Chile (32°)
Late Pleistocene–Early Holocene human settlement and environmental dynamics in the southern Atacama Desert highlands (24.0°S–24.5°S, Northern Chile)
The earliest known population of the Atacama Desert coincided with the Central Andean Pluvial Event II (CAPE II), an extensive pluvial event recorded during the Late Pleistocene–Early Holocene (13,800–8,500 cal years BP). A large number of archaeological sites from this period have been found along the borders of the Imilac and Punta Negra (24.5°S) high‐altitude basins (ca. 3,000 masl). By combining the results of proxy data obtained from geomorp…
Impact of Co-Occurring Psychiatric Disorders on Retention in a Methadone Maintenance Program
We assess the influence of co-occurring psychiatric disorders on retention in 189 opioid dependent patients in a methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) and determine the incidence of psychiatric co-morbidity during an 18-month follow-up period. About 68.5 % were retained in the MMT. Neither co-occurring mental disorders (chi-square = 0.303, df = 1, p = 0.622) nor methadone doses [85 (88.9) vs. 79.2 (85) mg/day, p = 0.672] were related to retention…
