  • Modern catchment soil–lake sediment linkages

Open Access•A S Yamuna Sali, Anish Kumar Warrier et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2026

This study presents a comprehensive assessment of the spatial variability of geochemical, biological, and physical proxies in catchment soils, surface sediments, and suspended particulate matter from Lake Ramasamudra (RSL), along with the factors governing these patterns. Using a multiproxy approach, it further examines the imprints of modern vegetation and chemical weathering on the catchment and lake sediments. The results show that magnetic mi…

  • Paleorainfall during the past two millennia in the Western Ghats, south-western India

  • Increasing frequency of extreme climatic events in southern India during the Late Holocene

    Open Access•A S Yamuna Sali, P Vyshnav et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2024

In this study, we aim to reconstruct southern India's intrinsic environmental changes over the past 1500 years from 3330 to 1830 cal BP by investigating the sedimentation and weathering dynamics in Lake Shantisagara, one of Karnataka's largest lakes. Four distinct climatic phases were delineated based on sedimentological, geochemical, and End Member Modelling Analysis (EMMA) results. Phase 1 (3330-3100 cal BP) is a short-term low rainfall zone ch…

  • A high-resolution record of Mid- to Late-Holocene environmental changes from a land-locked lake in Schirmacher Oasis, East Antarctica

    Open Access•G S Joju, Anish Kumar Warrier et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2024•Referencias: 11

We present a high-resolution record of environmental changes during the Mid-Late Holocene obtained from a lake sediment core covering the past 4.87 cal kyr BP in the Schirmacher Oasis, East Antarctica. The magnetic signal of Lake L6 was found to be primarily controlled by catchment-derived ferrimagnetic minerals. The period between 4.87 and 3.35 cal kyr BP is marked by several episodes of cold and warm conditions. Warm and wet conditions prevaile…

  • Mid to Late-Holocene environmental dynamics recorded in Lake Pup Lagoon, East Antarctica

    Open Access•Cheryl A Noronha-D’Mello, Abhilash Nair et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2024•Referencias: 10

Paleoenvironmental archives in East Antarctica have revealed significant changes during the Holocene, marked by ice sheet retreat leading to the isolation of submarine basins. These basins offer valuable insights into past climate, glaciology, and oceanography shifts that impact sedimentary processes. In this study, environmental magnetism and biogeochemical proxies to investigate the Mid-to-Late-Holocene transitions in Pup Lagoon, a coastal isol…

  • Moving from symptom management to upstream plastics prevention

Open Access•Melanie Bergmann, Hans Peter H Arp et al.•ARTICLE•One Earth•2023

Plastic removal technologies can temporarily mitigate plastic accumulation at local scales, but evidence-based criteria are needed in policies to ensure that they are feasible and that ecological benefits outweigh the costs. To reduce plastic pollution efficiently and economically, policy should prioritize regulating and reducing upstream production rather than downstream pollution cleanup. Plastic removal technologies can temporarily mitigate pl…
