  • Holocene glacial evolution in Quingaussarsuaq Peninsula (Central–West Greenland)

Open Access•Martin Oliva, Marc Oliva et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2026

The Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) is a key component of the global climate system, and constraining the Holocene deglaciation history of its land-terminating margins is key to understanding its sensitivity to climate forcing. Here, we provide insights into landscape evolution and environmental change on the Qinguassarsuaq Peninsula, Central–West Greenland 69°N, 50°W, where we used high-resolution geomorphological surveys and extensive field mapping …

  • The final countdown? Monitoring the rapid shrinkage of the Maladeta glacier (2010–2020), Southern Pyrenees

Open Access•Adrián Martínez‐fernández, Enrique Serrano et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2023

Small glaciers are one of the best indicators of climatic variations and their short‐term effects. Located in the Spanish Pyrenees, the Maladeta is one of these glaciers. Its systematic observation began in the 1980s, being one of the few Pyrenean glaciers with a tongue‐shaped front. This study presents the evolution of the Maladeta glacial tongue over a decade (2010–2020) through multiple geomatic techniques. Surveys have ranged from Total Stati…

Open Access•Sijia Huo, Enrique Serrano Cañadas et al.•ARTICLE•Revista de geografía Norte Grande•2022

Heritage routes are a new type of lineal heritage. The World Heritage groups all elements for a "linear” and territorial protection, creating a network. Its essential characteristic is linearity, and landscape is the element that brings together all cultural and natural values. In this work two World Heritage are studied, the "Silk Routes” and "Camino de Santia go”. Landscape units that frame the cultural elements have been mapped, considering th…

  • The deglaciation of Barton Peninsula (King George Island, South Shetland Islands, Antarctica) based on geomorphological evidence and lacustrine records

    Open Access•Martin Oliva, Dermot Antoniades et al.•ARTICLE•Polar Record•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 52

Barton Peninsula is an ice-free area located in the southwest corner of King George Island (South Shetland Islands, Antarctica). Following the Last Glacial Maximum, several geomorphological features developed in newly exposed ice-free terrain and their distribution provide insights about past environmental evolution of the area. Three moraine systems are indicative of three main glacial phases within the long-term glacial retreat, which also favo…

    Open Access•Sebastián Polo, Enrique Serrano•ARTICLE•Novum Jus•2018•Cited by: 1

Open Access•Sebastián Polo, Enrique Serrano et al.•ARTICLE•Novum Jus•2018•Cited by: 1

Geomorphic mapping and stratigraphic analysis of a lake core document the late Quaternary glacial history of the Central and Eastern Massifs of the Picos de Europa, northwestern Spain. The distribution of glacial deposits indicates that at their most advanced positions glaciers occupied 9.1 km 2 , extended as far as 7 km down-valley and had an estimated equilibrium-line altitude (ELA) ranging between 1666 and 1722 m. Radiocarbon dating of sedimen…

  • Little Ice Age' glaciation and current glaciers in the Iberian Peninsula

Open Access•Juan José González Trueba, Raúl Martín Moreno et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2008•Cited by: 2•References: 2

`Little Ice Age' (LIA) glacier advance has been registered in three of the main Iberian high mountain areas: Pyrenees, Picos de Europa and Sierra Nevada. During the LIA, three different glacial environments have been differentiated in these three ranges. A high mountain glacial environment exists in the Pyrenees, where the altitude and northern latitude developed the most complex glacial environment between the oceanic influence on the western si…

  • Geodiversity: A theoretical and applied concept

    Open Access•Enrique Serrano, P Ruiz-Flaño•ARTICLE•Geographica Helvetica•2007

The concept of geodiversity appears to have grown out of the discussions around biodiversity, and has evolved over time to become both a tool and a theoretical concept. The paper presents an overview of this conceptual evolution, leading to formulation of the argument that geodiversity is a broader term than geological diversity. Consequently, it is proposed that the concept should take into account all abiotic elements, processes and relations t…
