  • Despite a century of warming, increased snowfall has buffered the ice phenology of North America’s largest high-elevation lake against climate change

    Open Access•Lusha M Tronstad, Isabella A Oleksy et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2024

Lakes are sentinels of environmental change. In cold climates, lake ice phenology—the timing and duration of ice cover during winter—is a key control on ecosystem function. Ice phenology is likely driven by a complex interplay between physical characteristics and climatic conditions. Under climate change, lakes are generally freezing later, melting out earlier, and experiencing a shorter duration of ice cover; however, few long-term records exist…

  • Randomized Controlled Pilot Trial: Project Support Positive Parenting Module Following Sexual Abuse

Open Access•Caitlin Rancher, Renée Mcdonald et al.•ARTICLE•Research on Social Work Practice•2023

Purpose: Support from a nonoffending caregiver can play a critical role in helping children recover from sexual abuse. However, many caregivers lack the skills to effectively support their child during the aftermath of a sexual abuse disclosure. This randomized controlled pilot trial examined a brief parenting intervention (Project Support Positive Parenting module) delivered by paraprofessionals to families waiting for intensive, trauma-focused …
