Phase 2: 1978–2012, the formation of a secondarily and rich and strong country through the reform and opening-up. And phase 3: 2012 to the pres…

Criteria for a Democratic and Effective National Political System
Democracy should not be only a matter of form, but should be genuine and workable. The people’s democracy in China has always been based on the principle that the …

Giving full play to the state-led regulation in the market economy
This paper expounds the internal law and relationship among market regulation, state regulation and proportional development of economy, and gets the conclusion that the appropriate theory and policy in current stage in China is to take market regulation as the basis and state-led regulation as the leading method in promoting economic development
On the Three Stages in the Development of Socialism
Socialism passes through three stages, which capture the qualitative transformation of the relations of production caused by changes in the productive forces. Specifically, the primary stage = public ownership as central (private ownership as supplement) + market-based distribution according to labor as central (distribution according to capital as supplement) + state(plan-) dominated market economy. The intermediate stage = multiple forms of pub…
The Chinese Revolution and the Communist International
This article is an intervention in some controversies concerning the role of the Communist International in and outside China. It seeks to tackle the inappropriate denial of its guidance and aid to the Chinese Revolution. In doing so, this paper makes several arguments. First, it argues that the Communist International provided the Chinese Revolution with valuable guidance, support and assistance. These contributed tremendously to the Communist P…

Five Characteristics of Neoimperialism
Neoimperialism, the specific contemporary phase of historical development, can be summed up on the basis of five key features: the new monopoly of production and circulation; the new monopoly of finance capital; the monopoly of the U.S. dollar and intellectual property; the new monopoly of the international oligarchic alliance; and the economic essence and general trend

A New Historical Materialist Interpretation of the Role of Historical Figures
This paper explores the issue of historical figures (influential people, mainly leaders who stand out in history) “making history.” Accordingly, it proposes and demonstrates a new interpretation of the role of historical figures as “makers of history in a broad sense.” To dialectically accommodate the relationship between “times” and “heroes,” historical figures’ coming to prominence and their activities are thought of as the combined effects of …
Enriching and Developing Marxism in the Twenty-First Century in Various Aspects
This paper extends the definition of Marxism in six aspects and discusses it in connection with contemporary theories and reality. Second, in the aspect of academic thought, we should constantly enrich and develop Marxist academic theories on laws gover…
A Study of Unnatural Deaths during the Difficult Three Year Period in China, 1959-1961
The popular view that the number of unnatural deaths in China during the Difficult Three Year Period (1959-1961) amounted to some 30 million is false, as shown by careful analysis. Taking the average death toll from 1955 to 1957 as the base number, and combining this with unreported deaths from 1953 to 1964 and subsequent corrections, it may be estimated that approximately four to five million people suffered unnatural deaths during the Difficult…

A Theory of China's 'Miracle
China's rapid economic development in recent years is often characterized as "miraculous." Talk of a "Beijing Consensus" or "China model" has become commonplace in academic debates. But as we have written elsewhere, "theoretical problems have started to emerge with regards to the very existence, content, and prospects of the China model." The key question, then, is what kind of economic theory and strategy underpin this "miracle."... [W]e hold th…
