  • Revisiting the sustainability science research agenda

    Open Access•Mesfin Sahle, Shruti Ashish Lahoti et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainability Science•2024•Cited by: 7•References: 22

Identifying research gaps and priorities is paramount to advance sustainability science and contribute to a sustainable future. This editorial contributes to this effort by contemplating the sustainability science research agenda and aligning it with recent changes in global dynamics. Drawing on consultations with the editorial board members of the Sustainability Science journal and a review of relevant literature, we identified 12 key research t…

  • A mapping of global warming research based on IPCC AR4

    Open Access•Ai Hiramatsu, Nobuo Mimura et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainability Science•2008•Cited by: 1•References: 5

It is easy to get lost in the vast amount of knowledge that is currently produced. In this study, to get a comprehensive picture of current scientific knowledge about global warming issues, we developed a mapping framework for global warming research based on the relationships between nature and human society. The mapping includes seven phases: (1) socioeconomic activity and greenhouse gas emissions, (2) carbon cycle and carbon concentration, (3)…

  • Impacts of climate change and sea-level rise on cyclonic storm surge floods in Bangladesh

Open Access•M Karim, Md Fazlul Karim et al.•ARTICLE•Global Environmental Change•2008•Cited by: 28

  • Influence of global warming on coastal infrastructural instability

Open Access•K Yasuhara, Satoshi Murakami et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainability Science•2006•Cited by: 2

The increasing infrastructure instability is an important issue in relation to the influences of global climate change in urban areas. A serious issue pertaining to this is the dual nature of damage triggered by events combined with climate change and natural hazards. For example, catastrophic damage could result from the combination of global warming with a great earthquake, which is a worst-case scenario. Although this worst-case scenario has r…

  • Supporting climate change vulnerability and adaptation assessments in the Asia-Pacific region: An example of sustainability science

    Open Access•John Hay, Nobuo Mimura•ARTICLE•Sustainability Science•2006•Cited by: 7•References: 3

Sustainability is achieved only when there is full reconciliation between: (1) economic development; (2) meeting, on an equitable basis, growing and changing human needs and aspirations; and (3) conserving the limited natural resources and the capacity of the environment to absorb the mulitple stresses that are a consequence of human activities. The linkages between climate and sustainability are examined in the context of both the wider Asia-Pac…
