  • Prediction models for understanding traffic safety risk on rural roads in Serbia

    Open Access•Sreten Jevremović, Milica Šelmić•ARTICLE•Computational Urban Science•2026

This paper presents a traffic accident prediction model developed for IB-category rural roads in the Republic of Serbia, utilizing the largest dataset analyzed in the country to date. The model employs interpretable machine learning techniques to assess the impact of road geometry, traffic exposure, and quality on accident frequency. The model exhibits robust predictive accuracy with a R 2 of 79%, especially in pinpointing high-risk regions linke…

  • Dynamic Walkability Index (DWI)—Enhancing Walking Equity for the City of Čačak, Serbia

    Open Access•Ana Trpković, Sreten Jevremović et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Science•2026•References: 5

Walkability for non-motorized users is crucial for fostering inclusive, healthy, and sustainable communities. By prioritizing modern human-centered design principles, social equality is promoted for all categories of users, regardless of physical abilities or socio-economic status. Despite the importance of this indicator, a series of inconsistencies that produce inadequate and inaccessible urban space can still be observed in cities. The aim of …

  • Spatial Modelling of Urban Accessibility

    Open Access•Filip Arnaut, Sreten Jevremović et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Science•2025•References: 13

This study presents the first comprehensive spatial accessibility assessment of essential urban services in Belgrade, Republic of Serbia, conducted entirely with open-source tools and data. The analysis focused on six facility categories: primary healthcare centers, public pharmacies, primary and secondary schools, libraries, and green markets. Spatial accessibility was modelled using OpenRouteService (ORS) isochrones for walking travel times of …

  • Potential Spatial Accessibility to Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (pPCI) Facilities in the Republic of Serbia for the Year 2030

    Open Access•Sreten Jevremović, Filip Arnaut et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Science•2025•References: 2

This cross-sectional study evaluates the potential spatial accessibility of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) facilities in the Republic of Serbia (RS) for the year 2030. Cardiovascular diseases, specifically acute myocardial infarction (AMI), are major contributors to mortality, requiring immediate intervention to reestablish blood circulation to the heart. This research employs travel time isochrone analysis to assess the percen…

  • Sustainably breaking the cycle

    Open Access•Sergio A Useche, F Alonso et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Futures•2025•References: 2

While urban cycling is gaining ground worldwide as an active and sustainable mode of transport, various safety-related risks continue to threaten cyclists. In this regard, some studies suggest that cycling risk-related outcomes could be closely linked to development indicators beyond cycling infrastructure, including health, income, and welfare indices. This study aimed to analyze the relationships between different country-level development indi…
