Lobbying Coalitions and Government Policy Change
Coalition lobbying is one of the most frequently employed influence tactics used by interest groups today. Yet, surprisingly, the existing literature measuring its policy effects finds either no relationship or a negative association between coalition lobbying and policy change. We theorize the conditions under which coalition lobbying will influence policy and then test for its policy effects. We expect greater influence when there is consensus …
Children's Age-Related Intellectual Strategies for Dealing With Musical and Spatial Analogical Tasks
The authors of this study sought to determine whether there is an age-related, common level of logic underlying responses to musical and spatial analogical tasks and to characterize these levels of logic in terms of similar intellectual strategies. Children ( N = 128) ranging in age from 6.5 to 12.5 years old were individually tested using author-designed Spatial Analogy Tasks (SANTs) and Musical Analogy Tasks (MANTs). Analyses of results indicat…
Trends in the Aesthetic Responses of Children to the Musical Experience
The purpose of this study was to identify and define possible age-related characteristics of children's aesthetic responsiveness to music they performed on the violin; to investigate the relationship between any identifiable characteristics with an area of musical conceptualization (conservation of rhythm); and to determine the relationship between musical training and aesthetic responsiveness. Forty-six violinists between the ages of 3 and 161⁄2…
The Conservation of Rhythm in Suzuki Violin Students
The purposes of this study were to (1) develop a task as a measure of rhythmic conservation in young instrumentalists, and (2) determine the validity of the task. Twenty Suzuki violin students between 4 and 8 years old were individually administered an author-designed rhythmic task and a series of standardized tasks that measured area and length conservation. The training level of the students was found to be less of a factor in their ability to …
