  • The effect of soaring housing prices on the quality of export products

Open Access•Yousen Jin, Haitao Mao et al.•ARTICLE•World Economy•2024

This paper examines the impact of rising housing prices on the quality of export products. When housing prices increase, the collateral value of firms can rise, easing financial constraints and potentially boosting investment in innovation and product quality. • Identifying the sources of economic growth in Sri Lanka under trade liberalization

Ranpati Dewage Thilini Sumudu Kumari, Sam Hak Kan Tang•ARTICLE•Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy•2024•References: 2

We explore the sources of economic growth in Sri Lanka for the period during which it implemented a liberalized trade policy. We first calculate the primal and dual total factor productivity growth (TFPG), and then evaluate the roles of FDI and exports in driving TFPG. Results show that the average annual primal TFPG for 1980–2019 is 2.1%, constituting 43% of output growth. The corresponding dual TFPG is 3.3%. This divergence between primal and d…

Open Access•Harriet Bloch, Sam Hak Kan Tang•ARTICLE•Progress in Development Studies•2004•Cited by: 1•References: 8

In our first progress report, Bloch and Tang (2001), we examined the importance of the ‘Solow residual’, or total factor productivity growth (TFPG), in the process of economic growth, particularly in the context of the East Asian economic growth ‘miracle’. We demonstrated that while TFPG has been less important in explaining growth in East Asia than in the advanced industrial economies, it still has played an important role in the susceptibility …

  • The role of financial development in economic growth

Open Access•Harriet Bloch, Sam Hak Kan Tang•ARTICLE•Progress in Development Studies•2003•Cited by: 1•References: 9

In our previous progress report (Bloch and Tang, 2001), we review the literature relating to the role of technical change and productivity growth in East Asian economic growth. The topic of economic growth is central to development economics. Growth is one of the (if not the) major engine of improvements in living standards in the developing countries. Much recent work has addressed the potential links between financial development and economic g…
