Cet article a pour but de restituer les commentaires sur la pensée de Pareto parus de son vivant, notamment sur le Cours d’économie politique, les Systèmes socialistes, le Manuel d’économie politique et le Traité de sociologie générale. Leur examen montre que Pareto ne suscite pas, d’emblée, une grande attention, ce qui nous confirme dans l’impression que sa renommée n’a pris son envol qu’après son décès
