  • Gernika y Alemania

    Open Access•Walther L Bernecker•ARTICLE•Historia Contemporánea•2007

  • Rise and Decline of Latin American Dependency Theories

    Open Access•Walther L Bernecker, Thomas Fischer•ARTICLE•Itinerario•1998•Cited by: 1•References: 12

In order to understand the value of any theory, one has to know its origins and background. This is especially true of the various dependency theories, which have always been more than just ‘theories of theorists for theorists’. Dependency theories can only be understood against the background of Latin American politics in the 1960s. Taking this into account, there was an obvious connection between the Cuban Revolution on the one hand, and the un…

  • Monarchy and Democracy

    Open Access•Walther L Bernecker•ARTICLE•Journal of Contemporary History•1998•Cited by: 6

Almost all portrayals of Spain's transition from dictatorship to democracy stress the importance of structural aspects: the economy and society, the army and the workforce, the Church and political parties, international relations and super-national pressures. Only a few studies examine the role of individual personalities. This article on the role of the king will not attempt to analyse all aspects of the dialectical problem of personality and s…

John S Conway, Walther L Bernecker et al.•ARTICLE•German Studies Review•1997

  • Between European and American Dominance

    Open Access•Walther L Bernecker•ARTICLE•Itinerario•1997•References: 1

Conventional accounts of economic links between the North Atlantic nations (USA/Europe) and Mexico state that the Europeans clearly dominated Mexican foreign trade in the first decades after national independence while the United States only achieved significance in Mexico's import-export trade in the Porfiriato during the last quarter of the nineteenth century. Such studies suggest that the United States only gradually discovered an interest in …
