  • What argumentation theory can teach us about commercials: Strategic maneuvering and the ‘tulip test’

    Open Access•Hédi Virág Csordás, Gábor Forrai•ARTICLE•Society and Economy•2018•References: 1

The paper seeks to show that the theory of strategic maneuvering, the most recent version of the pragma-dialectical approach to argumentation, can make vital contribution to understanding how commercials are designed and defended against legal challenges. If commercials can be subjected to argumentation-theoretic analysis, that would also show that the idea that commercials never constitute genuine arguments is mistaken. We will begin by sketchin…

  • Intentionality: Past and Future

    Gábor Forrai, George Kampis•BOOK•Intentionality•2005

This book contains eleven original papers about intentionality. Some explore current problems such as the status of intentional content, the intentionality of perception and emotion, the connections between intentionality and normativity, the relationship between intentionality and consciousness, the characteristics of the intentional idiom. Others discuss the work of historical figures like Locke, Brentano, Husserl and Frege.

I argue that this metaphor is at least partially responsible forthe following assumptions andemphases in episte…

  • Reference, truth, and conceptual schemes: A Defense of Internal Realism

    Gábor Forrai•BOOK•Reference, truth, and conceptual…•2001

This systematic development of the internal realist approach tries to steer a middle course between metaphysical realism and relativism. It argues against metaphysical realism that it is open to global skepticism and cannot cope with conceptual pluralism. Against realism it is claimed that there are mind-independent constraints on the validity of our claims to knowledge. The book provides a moderately verificationist account of semantics and a no…
