  • Toward a Cripistemology of Eco-Anxiety

    Kim Q Hall•ARTICLE•Journal of Literary & Cultural…•2024

The article proposes a cripistemology of eco-anxiety that critiques a white, cis-heteronormative, ableist form of ignorance that characterizes mainstream concerns about eco-anxious youth, including what the article suggests are the ecofascist tendencies of this ignorance. Rather than deny the debilitating effects that anxiety can have, the focus here is on an individualized and depoliticized mainstream approach to eco-anxiety that operates as a f…

  • What Is Feminist Philosophy?

Kim Q Hall, Ásta et al.•CHAPTER•Oxford Handbook of Feminist…•2021

What is feminist philosophy? What are some major themes? This chapter is the editors’ introduction to the Oxford Handbook of Feminist Philosophy. It offers an introduction to feminist philosophy and discusses the field’s relation to both feminism and philosophy. Readers get a glimpse of some of the history of the field of feminist philosophy and its current state. Just as feminism is not monolithic, feminist philosophy is an extraordinarily diver…

  • Limping Along

Kim Q Hall, Philosophy Documentation Center•ARTICLE•The Journal of Philosophy of…•2021

A queer crip embodied experience of limping is the point of departure for my reflections on the differences between a crip phenomenology and a phenomenology of disability. I argue that a crip phenomenology can further understanding of how ableism and heternormativity work together, along with other structures of violence, to shape experiences at the edges of ability and disability, and, indeed, the possibility of queer crip movement in and throug…

  • Toward a Queer Crip Feminist Politics of Food

    Kim Q Hall•ARTICLE•philoSOPHIA•2014

Toward a Queer Crip Feminist Politics of Food Kim Q. Hall In David T. Mitchell's and Sharon L. Snyder's film, Vital Signs: Crip Culture Talks Back (2001/1996), Harlan Hahn quips about the role of food in disability culture and identity. If disability is an identity with a culture, Hahn says, it has to have its own food. Every culture has its own food. "You know," he continues, ". . . we do have a food—fast food! It's so much easier to go to the d…

  • Not Much to Praise in Such Seeking and Finding”

    Open Access•Kim Q Hall•ARTICLE•Hypatia•2011•Cited by: 3•References: 9

This paper critiques the rise of scientific approaches to central questions in the humanities, specifically questions about human nature, ethics, identity, and experience. In particular, I look at how an increasing number of philosophers are turning to evolutionary psychology and neuroscience as sources of answers to philosophical problems. This approach constitutes what I term a biological turn in the humanities. I argue that the biological turn…

  • Queerness, Disability, and The Vagina Monologues

    Open Access•Kim Q Hall•ARTICLE•Hypatia•2005•Cited by: 6•References: 7

This paper questions the connection between vaginas and feminist embodiment in The Vagina Monologues and considers how the text both challenges and reinscribes (albeit unintentionally) systems of patriarchy, compulsory heterosexuality, and ableism. I use the Intersex Society of North America's critique as a point of departure and argue that the text offers theorists and activists in feminist, queer, and disability communities an opportunity to un…
