    Robert Kail, Robert V Kail•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•1992•Cited by: 12•References: 1

In each of 2 studies, 24 nine-year-olds and 24 adults were administered measures of memory and measures of processing speed. In addition, in Study 2, articulation rate was measured. Age was correlated positively with memory but was correlated negatively with processing speed and articulation rate. The results of path analyses were consistent with the hypothesis that age and processing speed independently contribute to articulation rate, which det…

  • Developmental change in speed of processing during childhood and adolescence

    Robert Kail, Robert V Kail•ARTICLE•Psychological Bulletin•1991•Cited by: 16

Throughout childhood and adolescence, there are consistent age differences in speed of processing. Here 72 published studies yielded 1,826 pairs of response times (RTs) in which each pair consisted of adults' mean RT for a condition and the corresponding mean RT for a younger group. The primary results were that (a) children's and adolescents' RTs increase linearly as a function of adult RTs in corresponding conditions and (b) the amount of incre…
