  • Structured and Organic Models of Countertransference

    Charles Spezzano•ARTICLE•The Psychoanalytic Quarterly•2018•References: 13

Abend’s paper is a gift for any author wanting a summary of where conflict theory (sometimes called “classical theory” by those who don’t embrace it, much to the annoyance of those who do and hear, in the word classical, the innuendo of old and outdated) stood on the question of countertransference thirty years ago, to be used as a launching pad from which to discuss developments in how we have been writing about it since then. • Soul on the Couch: Spirituality, Religion, and Morality in Contemporary Psychoanalysis

Charles Spezzano, Gerald J Gargiulo•BOOK•Soul on the Couch•2013

Soul on the Couch is premised on the belief that discourse about the soul and discourse from the couch can inform, and not simply ignore, one another. It brings together scholars and psychoanalysis at the forefront of an interdisciplinary dialogue that is vitally important to the growth of both disciplines. Their essays are not only models of reflective inquiry; they also illuminate the syntheses that emerge when analysts and scholars of religion…

To illustrate his way of working with the patient to accomplish this, the author presents case vignettes…

    Open Access•Charles Spezzano•ARTICLE•Journal of the American…•1998•Cited by: 13•References: 15

There are always third elements intersecting the analytic pair. One such element is the analytic community. The analyst is therefore never in a dyadic relationship with the patient, but always in a triangle. In relation to the patient, the analyst will be concerned with useful practices. In relation to the analytic community, the analyst will be concerned with consensually approved principles. This tension is constant in analytic work and in the …
