Goal Attainment Scaling is a method for measuring an individual’s progress toward a given goal. It was used as part of an interprofessional workforce development program that trained social work and occupational therapy graduate students and peer support workers on meeting the mental and behavioral health needs of underserved communities. International Social Work
Social work practice in a global context requires an understanding of the cross-cultural nature of practice settings in local communities and globally. One step to developing this understanding of the internationalisation of social work education, including the student internship, is to incorporate supervision by local practitioners and educators. A qualitative interview study of fourteen social work students from Australia, New Zealand, Europe a…
Gender, Geography, and Justice
This multi-jail study examines the behavioral health needs and service use in a sample of 3,787 individuals in jail, to compare women in rural jails to their gender and geography counterparts (that is rural men, urban women, and urban men). Compared to urban women (17.9%, n = 677), rural men (18.2%, n = 690), and urban men (56.1%; n = 2,132), rural women (7.6%, n = 288) had significantly higher odds of serious mental illness and co-occurring ment…

Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment
Effective evidence-based practice (EBP) implementation is crucial to eliminating the science-to-service gap and getting the research into a usable form for social workers and other practitioners. In an analysis of integrated dual disorder treatment (IDDT) implementation and fidelity for 2006–2012 among 68 teams in one entire s…

Assessing Soil Remobilisation in Catchments using a 137 Cs-sediment Hillslope Model
Soil redistribution studies are important, especially in water supply catchments, because the rate at which denudation is occurring has implications for offsite water quality. However, the extent to which soil is redistributed within the landscape can be difficult to determine. This challenge can be overcome using fallout caesium-137 (137Cs). This paper describes the rates of soil loss and remobilisation in two sub-catchments within the Sydney Ba…
Mentoring beginning teachers in secondary schools
Individual action planning
The authors explore the Foucauldian concept of self‐surveillance in the context of the use of Individual Action Planning (IAP) as a central process of a 1‐year teacher training course. Drawing on work that examined whether IAP was experienced by student‐teachers as empowerment or control, the article postulates that Action Planning can be seen as a central technique of a system of self‐surveillance. The effect of IAPs in creating self‐surveillanc…
