    Whilst the majority of prints were kept in portfolios, albums and plan chests, there is ample evidence that from an early date some prints were framed and hung. The evidence is, however, very patchy, though a picture can be pieced together from a number of different sources. The first and best is, of course, prints which have survived in their original frames. These are scarce largely because much of the material we seek has been destroyed. Print…
