  • Language Without Propositions

    Open Access•Jakub Mácha•ARTICLE•Philosophies•2026

This paper defends the thesis that LLM hallucinations are best explained as a truth representation problem: Current models lack an internal representation of propositions as truth-bearers, so truth and falsity cannot constrain generation in the way factual discourse requires. It begins by surveying leading explanations—computational limits on self-verification, deficiencies in training data as truth sources, and architectural factors—and argues t…

  • Repetition of Difference in Ornament

    Open Access•Jakub Mácha•ARTICLE•Deleuze and Guattari Studies•2025

This article gives a Deleuzian analysis of the concept of ornament, focusing primarily on Deleuze’s reversed platonism and his account of conceptual personae. It differentiates between three kinds of platonism – crude, straight and reversed – and argues that the latter two correspond to two general techniques of creating ornament: stamping and incising. The essay then argues that ornamental patterns are essentially signs. Their differences are no…

  • Introduction to Thinking in Ornaments

Open Access•Michaela Fišerová, Jakub Mácha•ARTICLE•Deleuze and Guattari Studies•2025

This introduction presents the rationale for the special issue and outlines the main motives discussed in the following essays. The special issue redefines the concept of ornamentation based on Gilles Deleuze's philosophy. It presents ornaments as potent instruments for forming social bonds through repetition and a ruminative mental mindset. Essays by various authors explore the connection between ornaments, social bonds and affective integration…

  • "Wittgenstein on the "Alien Will

    Open Access•Jakub Mácha•ARTICLE•Religions•2024•References: 8

In this article, I delve into Wittgenstein's early manuscripts to examine the idea of an "alien will", which may have been inspired by Schopenhauer and Weininger. By contrast with other interpretations, I treat this notion not as a metaphor but as the fundamental idea that the world is independent of an individual's will and appears instead to be influenced by a quasi-divine, alien will. This alien will, distinct from personal will, could either …

  • Housing as an Exception, Eviction as Everyday Life

    Open Access•Pavel Doboš, Kristina Jamrichová et al.•ARTICLE•Czech Sociological Review•2023•Cited by: 3•References: 11

This article focuses on evictability and the eviction of the residents of one block of flats in a small southern Slovakian town. Most of the building's inhabitants are Roma, but the problem of cultural racism is interconnected with political, economic, legal, and even research and activist issues. The article is based on socially committed ethnographic research and the perspective of critical human geography. The theoretical framework is informed…

  • Engaging Kripke with Wittgenstein

Mats Gustafsson, Martin Gustafsson et al.•BOOK•Engaging Kripke with Wittgenstein•2023

In this chapter, I argue, with reference to Wittgenstein’s discussion of the standard meter in the Philosophical Investigations, that Kripke’s introduction of the epistemological-metaphysical category of contingent a priori in Naming and Necessity fails, due to his overlooking certain important distinctions in the use of relevant expressions and due to his unrecognized or unacknowledged wavering between different uses of relevant sentences. If th…

  • Buďme pragmatici, požadujme nezamýšlené

Open Access•Kristina Jamrichová, Jakub Mácha et al.•ARTICLE•Lidé města•2022

The present paper intends to follow the debate on applied research in Czech social sciences and presents the case of interdisciplinary research in Southern Slovakia. The authors frame their approach to the research field using the Deleuzian terms of virtuality and multiplicity to underline the processual character of both ethnography and the field itself. On this basis, we develop the argument that the social sciences always act ontologically thr…

  • Reverberating the Glas

    Open Access•Jakub Mácha•ARTICLE•Hegel Bulletin•2022

Understanding Hegel's account of particularity has proven to be anything but straightforward. Two main accounts of particularity have been advanced: the particular as an example or instance and the particular as a subjective perspective on a universal concept. The problem with these accounts is that they reduce particularity either to singularity or to universality. As Derrida's analyses make apparent, the ‘structure of exemplarity’ in Hegel is q…

  • The Philosophy of Exemplarity

    Jakub Mácha•BOOK•Philosophy of Exemplarity•2022

This book offers an original philosophical perspective on exemplarity. Inspired by Wittgenstein’s later work and Derrida’s theory of deconstruction, it argues that examples are not static entities but rather oscillate between singular and universal moments. There is a broad consensus that exemplary cases mediate between singular instances and universal concepts or norms. In the first part of the book, Mácha contends that there is a kind of différ…

  • The Logic of Exemplarity

    Jakub Mácha•ARTICLE•Law & Literature•2020

The topic of exemplarity has attracted considerable interest in philosophy, legal theory, literary studies and art recently. There is broad consensus that exemplary cases mediate between singular instances and general concepts or norms. The aim of this article is to provide an additional perspective on the logic of exemplarity. First, inspired by Jacques Derrida’s discussion of exemplarity, I shall argue that there is a kind of différance between…

  • Description of Situations

    Open Access•Jakub Mácha•ARTICLE•The Philosophical Quarterly•2020

This concise book presents a defence of epistemic contextualism (the view that attributions of knowledge are relative to context-sensitive criteria) against various kinds of scepticism. Most of the twelve chapters focus on the epistemological views of key figures from the history of philosophy (Aristotle, Aquinas, Descartes, Kant, Bolzano, Frege, Husserl, Wittgenstein), by contrast with which Venturinha presents his own contextualist position. Th…
