    The paper examines the case of Persian men who fled the country and arrived as refugees in Greece. For the fifth century B.C. are attested Rhoesaces, Zopyrus and Amorges, while for the fourth an unnamed son of Pharnabazus, Artabazus, Amminapes and Sisines.     Phormion was an Athenian general (d. ca. 428 bce ), son of Asopios (Thuc. 1.64.2) or Asopichos (Paus. 1.23.10), of the deme of Paiania. He was general ( strategos ) in 440/39, 439/8 (?), 436/5 (?), and from 432/1 to 429/8.

    Phrynichos was an Athenian general and politician (d. 411 bce ), son of Stratonides of the deme of Deiradiotai. His origins may have been humble, as lysias refers to him as a poor shepherd who came to ATHENS from the countryside to earn money as a sycophant (Lys. 20.11–12). He is first mentioned in the ancient sources in relation to 422, when he appears to have been well known enough to have a group around him (Ar. Vesp . 1302).
