  • Evaluation of the Transfer of Training for a Sexual Assault Resistance Program Enhanced with Sexuality Education

    Open Access•N K Jeffrey, Charlene Y Senn et al.•ARTICLE•Sexuality Research and Social…•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 11

Introduction The Enhanced Assess , Acknowledge , Act ( EAAA ) Sexual Assault (SA) Resistance Program is a theoretically sound, evidence-based program providing SA resistance education within a positive sexuality framework. It was shown to substantially reduce sexual assault victimization among university women who participate (Senn et al. in New England Journal of Medicine 372 (24), 2326-2335, 2015). Staff training can either enhance or impede su…

  • I Felt Powerful and Confident”: Women’s Use of What They Learned in Feminist Sexual Assault Resistance Education

    Open Access•Sara Crann, Charlene Y Senn et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology of Women Quarterly•2021•Cited by: 4•References: 8

Research on women's response and resistance to sexual assault risk has informed the development of interventions to improve women's ability to effectively resist sexual assault. However, little is known about how women anticipate, navigate, and respond to risk following participation in sexual assault risk reduction/resistance education programs. In this study, we examined the information and skills used by university women who had recently compl…

  • Sexual Assault Resistance Education’s Benefits for Survivors of Attempted and Completed Rape

    Open Access•Charlene Y Senn, Paula C Barata et al.•ARTICLE•Women & Therapy•2021•Cited by: 4•References: 2

The effectiveness of the Enhanced Assess, Acknowledge, Act (EAAA) program in reducing victimization and impacting other outcomes (mediators of program effects) was demonstrated in a randomized controlled trial. A planned analysis showed that program effects on sexual assault were not significantly different for survivors of completed rape and other women. The present article investigated whether the impact of EAAA on incidence of rape and attempt…

  • Testing a Model of How a Sexual Assault Resistance Education Program for Women Reduces Sexual Assaults

    Open Access•Charlene Y Senn, Misha Eliasziw et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology of Women Quarterly•2020•Cited by: 6•References: 7

The Enhanced Assess, Acknowledge, Act (EAAA) program has been shown to reduce sexual assaults experienced by university students who identify as women. Prevention researchers emphasize testing theory-based mechanisms once positive outcomes related to effectiveness are established. We assessed the process by which EAAA’s positive outcomes are achieved in a sample of 857 first year university students. EAAA’s goals are to increase risk detection in…

    Open Access•Charlene Y Senn, Misha Eliasziw et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology of Women Quarterly•2017•Cited by: 19•References: 11

We report the secondary outcomes and longevity of efficacy from a randomized controlled trial that evaluated a novel sexual assault resistance program designed for first-year women university students. Participants ( N = 893) were randomly assigned to receive the Enhanced Assess, Acknowledge, Act (EAAA) program or a selection of brochures (control). Perception of personal risk, self-defense self-efficacy, and rape myth acceptance was assessed at …

    Open Access•Paul A Toro, Karen L Hobden et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Community…•2014•Cited by: 1•References: 32

This study compared the characteristics of probability samples of homeless adults in Poland (N = 200 from two cities) and the United States (N = 219 from one city), using measures with established reliability and validity in homeless populations. The same measures were used across nations and a systemic translation procedure assured comparability of measurement. The two samples were similar on some measures: In both nations, most homeless adults …

  • Limiting attrition in longitudinal research on homeless adolescents: What works best

    Open Access•Karen Hobden, Karen L Hobden et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Community Psychology•2011•Cited by: 2•References: 22

The effectiveness of five tracking strategies (collateral contacts, Internet databases, driver's records, letters, and community visits) used in attempting to locate homeless and housed adolescents 4.5 years after they were first contacted was examined and compared. The study sample comprised 401 adolescents (252 homeless and 149 matched housed) from 8 counties in Southeast Michigan. Homelessness was defined as sleeping in a shelter, at a friend'…

  • Encyclopedia of Homelessness

Open Access•Karen Hobden, Karen L Hobden et al.•ARTICLE•Population•2005•Cited by: 4

Homelessness is one of the major social problems and personal and family tragedies of the contemporary world. No community, city, or nation is immune and the lack of affordable housing and a decline in secure, well-paying jobs means that the problem will only get worse. The Encyclopedia of Homelessness is the first systematic effort to organize and summarize what we know about thus complex topic which impacts not only the homeless but all of soci…
