  • The Impact of Market Factors on Meaningful Use of Electronic Health Records Among Primary Care Providers: Evidence From Florida Using Resource Dependence Theory and Information Uncertainty Perspective

    Pierre K Alexandre, Judith P Monestime et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2024•References: 27

BACKGROUND: Using federal funds from the 2009 Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services funded the 2011-2021 Medicaid electronic health record (EHR) incentive programs throughout the country. OBJECTIVE: Identify the market factors associated with Meaningful Use (MU) of EHRs after primary care providers (PCPs) enrolled in the Florida-EHR incentives program through Adopting, I…

  • Children’s Emotional and Behavioral Problems and Their Mothers’ Labor Supply

Open Access•Patrick Richard, Darrell J Gaskin et al.•ARTICLE•INQUIRY The Journal of Health…•2014

It has been documented that about 20% of children and adolescents suffer from a diagnosable mental or addictive disorder in the United States. The high prevalence of children's emotional and behavioral problems (EBP) might have a negative effect on their mothers' labor market outcomes because children with EBP require additional time for treatment. However, these children may require additional financial resources, which might promote mothers' la…

  • Race differentials in employment effects of psychological distress: A study of non-Hispanic Whites and African-Americans in the United States

    Open Access•Pierre K Alexandre, Richard Patrick et al.•ARTICLE•The Social Science Journal•2009•References: 3

This study used two sub-samples of African-Americans and non-Hispanic Whites from the 2002-2003 U.S. National Survey on Drug Use and Health to examine differential effects of psychological distress (PD) on employment. Failing to reject exogeneity of PD in the employment specifications, we estimated standard probit of employment. We found that PD significantly reduced employment probability regardless of race; but the reduction was 7.4% for Africa…

  • Mental health care for youth: Predictors of use are not always the same as predictors of volume

    Open Access•Pierre K Alexandre•ARTICLE•The Social Science Journal•2008•Cited by: 1•References: 6

This study identifies determinants of adolescents' propensity to use outpatient mental care as well as factors predicting number of visits after contact with a provider was made. We examined three types of treatment outlets: day treatment program (DTP); mental health clinic (MHC); and private specialty services (PSS). Among youth, 1.6% visited DTP; 2.3% visited MHC; and 11.1% had PSS; with overlaps in services utilization. Results from multivaria…

  • Prenatal care utilization in rural areas and urban areas of Haiti

    Open Access•Pierre K Alexandre, Gilbert Saint‐Jean et al.•ARTICLE•Revista Panamericana de Salud…•2005

A substantial percentage of pregnant women have access to prenatal care services in Haiti, but mothers in rural areas who decided to seek care still fell slightly below the four visits recommended by the World Health Organization. The education levels of both mothers and their partners is a dominant predictor of prenatal care use. Longer travel times and greater distances to health centers in rural areas constituted barriers to repeated visits. P…

  • Consequences and Costs of Closing a Publicly Funded Methadone Maintenance Clinic

    Open Access•Pierre K Alexandre, Helena J Salomé et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science Quarterly•2002

Objective . We examine volunteering to support the relief effort after the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building. We address two issues: (1) how widespread was volunteering and what forms did it take, and (2) does Wilson and Musick’s (1997a) “integrated theory of volunteer work” help to explain variation in volunteering in this disaster situation? Methods . We use data from the 1996 Oklahoma City Survey (OKC Survey). The 1996 OKC Survey is based…
