Genetic Studies of Pangwalas, Transhumant and Settled Gaddis: Age Changes in Biological Variables among Pangwalas of Pangi Tehsil, Chamba District, Himachal Pradesh
In the present paper 37 biological variables (26 anthropometric; 2 physiological and 8 physical fitness tests) have been reported among Pangwala boys with their age ranging from 8+ to 18+ years. The anthropometric and physiological variables show gradual rise from 8+ to 18+ year generally, where as for physical fitnesss tests, in general, a uniform trend of growth is not observed. When compared for anthropometric variables with Transhumant and Se…
Genetic Studies of Pangwalas, Transhumant and Settled Gaddis: A Comparative Study of Age Changes in Biological Variables among Transhumant and Settled Gaddis
The present paper is on comparative study of pattern of body growth and respiratory functions among Transhumant Gaddi (Brahmans and Rajputs) of Tehsil Bharamour, District Chamba inhabting Mid-Himalayan zone and Settled Gaddi (Brahmans and Rajputs) of District Kangra inhabiting Outer-Himalayan zone. Broadly speaking, all the groups do not show statistically significant differences between each other in most of the biological variables studied, exc…
Fertility differentials: A study on the Buddhists and the Hindus in Sikkim, India
Palmar Dermatoglyphic Creases Among Eleven Population Groups of Himalayas
This paper reports the variation of palmar creases frequencies among the Pangwalas, Transhumant and Settled Gaddis of Himachal Pradesh, Newars of Nepal and Bhutanese of Bhutan. The results of the study are compared within and in between these groups, as well as with other reports available in the literature
Biology of the people of Sikkim, India. 1. Studies on the variability of genetic markers
13 population groups of Sikkim (North India) ? Lepchas (2), Bhutias (2), Sherpas, Ta mangs, Gurungs, Rais, Limboos (Subbas), Pradhans (Newars), Brahmins, Chhetris, Scheduled Castes ? were analyzed for the distribution of 17 polymorphic systems of the blood: A1A2B0, MNSs, Rhesus (C, c, D, E, e), Kell, Duffy, Kidd, haptoglobin, transferrin subtypes, Gc subtypes, Gm (1, 2, 5), Km (1), red cell acid phosphatase (aP), phosphoglucomutase (PGMt), 6-phos…
Biology of the people of Sikkim, India. 2. Colour blindness, ear lobe attachment, mid-phalangeal hair and behavioural traits
14 population groups of Sikkim (India)--Lepchas (2), Bhutias (2), Sherpas, Tamangs, Gurungs, Mangars, Rais, Limboos/Subbas, Pradhans (Newars), Brahmans, Chhetris, Scheduled Castes--have been studied in regard of the intra- and intergroup variability of colour blindness, ear lobe attachment, mid-phalangeal hair and behavioural traits (tongue folding, hand clapsing, arm folding, leg folding, handedness). Some of these variables show a considerable …
