Estimating Firing Conditions for Archaeological Ceramics Using Gradual Heating
Stone Age People in the Insular World
The Incipient Neolithic of the Kurile Islands
The Incipient Neolithic of the Kurile Islands
This study introduces a recently discovered Neolithic culture of insular Northeast Asia. The initial stage of the Kurile Neolithic is described using findings from the 2019–2020 excavations at Kitovyi-2 and -4 on Iturup Island, the Greater Kurile Chain, Sakhalin Region. Several types of Neolithic feature were first revealed on the Kuriles by excavating large areas. The site includes dwellings mostly of two types–terranean with wooden frames that …
Obsidian sourcing analysis by X-ray fluorescence (XRF) for the Neolithic sites of Slavnaya 4 and 5, Sakhalin Islands (Russia)
Exploring the emergence of an 'Aquatic' Neolithic in the Russian Far East
Environmental Conditions of The Late Paleolithic and Early Neolithic Sites in Southern Sakhalin
The article presents the results of a palynological study conducted at Late Paleolithic (Olympiya-5 and Ogonki-5) and Early Neolithic (Slavnaya-5) sites located in the southern part of Sakhalin Island. The reconstructed environments оf Late Paleolithic sites in southern Sakhalin included dark coniferous (fir and spruce) forests, indicative of a relatively warm phases of the last stadial coinciding with Daansgard-Oeschger oscillations. The Early H…
