  • Gazma Cave—A Final Middle Paleolithic Site in Azerbaijan

    Open Access•Azad Zeynalov, A A Zeynalov et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2023•Cited by: 4•References: 8

This article describes the Middle Paleolithic industry of Gazma Cave in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. We present data on the stratigraphy, paleontology, chronology, and archaeology of the site. Six lithological layers were identifi ed, three of which (IV–VI) contain abundant archaeological material. The chronology of the site is based on a series of luminescence ages. The deposition of layers IV–VI formed ~55–40 ka BP. Paleont…

  • Radiocarbon Dating Rozhok I, a Middle Paleolithic Open-Air Site in Southern Russia

    Open Access•A K Otcherednoy, P E Nehoroshev et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 9

Samples of bone and teeth from the Middle Paleolithic open-air site of Rozhok I, located on the Gulf of Taganrog, were dated by radiocarbon ( 14 C). We obtained 26 accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) dates on a large sample of nonhuman bone and teeth recovered by N. D. Praslov during 1961–1962 from 5 of the 6 occupation horizons at Rozhok I. Two rigorous pretreatment methods were applied to the samples: ultra-filtration and XAD resin. The 14 C ag…
